Tune in (insert day of next game here). Same Leaf Time, Same Leaf Channel

So the Leafs played LA last night and lost, again, for the third time in a row. I kind of feel like Bill Murray's character in Groundhog Day. I turn on the game and see the Leafs lose. Some flashes of quality hockey, coupled with stupid elementary mistakes, a lack of overall effort, and without a bit of creativity. One of these days I'm going to take piano lessons or rob an armored car instead of watching the Leafs game.  Maybe I'll do that Friday.  Anyone know the Brinks truck route for Norwalk, CT?

nice thing about all these losses

I care as much about them as the players seem to care about trying to win..

First season in a long time where after a loss I didn’t feel at least a tinge of disappointment. it’s par for the course now. not sure which is sadder.

I have nothing interesting to say.

I ran Beauchemin’s quote through Google translate using the “post-game athlete” setting and this is what came out:

“We’re just playing out the string and waiting to see who’s still here on March 4.”

Bingo

And that’s the answer.

The Flyers said that they started turning their year around when Paul Holmgren told them that he wasn’t making any trades and that he was sticking with the guys there.

This pisses me off so damn much.

Everyone at my office is worried about their jobs. We aren’t sitting around doing jackshit waiting to see who gets let go. We’re working our asses off to make sure it’s not our ass getting kicked out.

Burke needs to go “Michael Corleone at the end of Godfather Part I” on this team. Swift, merciless, and let them know who the fuck’s in charge.

yes you can

A lot of these guys are in the same boat. If they don’t play hard they might never get an NHL contract again. You’d think that would be motivation enough.

Don’t mock me my friend. It’s a condition of mental divergence. I find myself in the Cup Finals, part of an athletic elite, preparing to subjugate the Red Wing hordes in Detroit. But even though this is a totally convincing reality for me in every way, nevertheless the Leafs in the Cup Finals are actually a construct of my psyche. I am mentally divergent, in that I am escaping certain unnamed realities that plague my life here. When I stop going there, I will be well. Are you also divergent, friend?

From Mirtle's piece
Wilson knows the Kings franchise well having coached division rivals for long stretches in Anaheim and San Jose, and said the plan Los Angeles GM Dean Lombardi put in place years earlier is finally bearing fruit.

"He knows how to build teams," Wilson said. "You start and you build through the draft and you develop players in the off-season. He set the model for the Sharks [as GM from 1996 to 2003] and he’s obviously done the same thing with the Kings.

Good thing I’m already seated.

by leafer1984 on Jan 27, 2010 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

given that Wilson said he admires Lombardi’s ability to do a slow rebuild, which they can’t do in Toronto, I don’t think Burke’s too worried about it.

Both Wilson and Burke are convinced that they can’t rebuild through the draft and develop players in the off-season. I would love to know why.
