Maple Leafs 4 v. Devils 5 (OT): A Familiar Feeling

The Leafs rallied back late in the third to tie the game at 4-4 but it was all for nought as they once again lost in overtime. This time it was while failing to kill a Luke Schenn penalty with less than a minute to go in the extra session. Vesa Toskala picked up the win loss (what was I thinking?!?) after Jonas Gustavsson got the hook in the second period. Ron Wilson was clearly displeased with the team's performance up to that point and didn't want to subject My Name Is to the shooting gallery.

So, let's hear it: Villains and goats for the game?

I’m happy we got an OT point. Take your bright spots where you can find them with this bunch.

That's a big positive

- That we somehow picked up a point in all of this
- In hindsight, OLAS’s penalty was warranted. Had he not taken it, the Leafs would’ve probably lost it there.

Those were my feelings as well. But then I realized that he should’ve been covering his guy better to begin with and neither circumstance would’ve occurred. Oh well.

If anything

Wilson should get the Wag of the Finger here, for sending out f—-ing Garnet Exelby on the PK.

He should get something-ed by Finger, maybe there would be wagging going on…

The Leafs had the lead in the first, and two White giveaways later they’re trailing and they never get the lead back. Major goat for me.

Yeah we haven’t had to say that much this year, but White was poor tonight.

He was still a +1 somehow. 4 shots on goal, 24 minutes.

And the team mostly battled back. Still, I’d rather they not have to put in the extra effort to come back from behind against Jersey, of all teams.

Somebody please explain

how it is that with less than a minute to go in a game, following a timeout, Wilson doesn’t have his best three players out killing that penalty?

Has anyone told him that they don’t have a first round pick? Tanking is not going to help!

3 left-hand shots, too. That’s been happening a LOT on the PK recently.

I liked seeing Stajan smash his stick into the glass after the Devils scored. This team needs more passion, even if it is the players looking physically upset instead of the usual TSN shot of Kaberle taking a casual drink from a water bottle as the rest of them sit on the bench looking straight forward not talking to eachother, just waiting for the game to end so they can go back to their million dollar houses in there hundred thousand dollar cars! I want someone to get upset! Pissed off. something to show they don’t like loosing this much…

Scoring Chances tally

in favour of the Devils 21-13. Leafs were brutalized in the 2nd period, of course, 12-4.

With Gustavsson in goal, Leafs were outchanced 10-4 at even-strength; after pulling Gus for Toskala, it was closer at 7-6 for NJ.

The Leafs have completely gone to shit since the Edmonton game

After tonight’s game, they are 3-10-2 in their last 15 for a .267 points percentage.

The fifteen games before that, going back to the 1st of December, the Leafs went 8-5-2 (.600). Plus, if you go add on the five games before that, they were 11-6-3 (.625) from Nov. 21 to Dec. 27. Hard to believe?

by Slava Duris #24 on Jan 29, 2010 10:25 PM EST reply actions

Since the team started 0-7-1 or whatever I guess it’s not that hard to believe. I’ll admit though – I thought we were on our way up the standings before Christmas, I definitely didn’t expect this.

JFC so bad the Leafs d is!? Felt so bad for my kountryman Gusty, no support wse.
At least he knew that the pulling was more of a momentum changer which Wilson also confirmed.
This was the first game I´ve seen for some time, probably missed the last 7-8 games, and I really don´t remember they were THIS sucky the last game I saw!
Okay, after reading the posts here after and sometimes during games it was pretty clear that they sucked, but I sort of hoped that it shouldn´t be this bad.
Did not really work with the “hope”-thing …..
Another cup of coffe, some sleep and a bright new day ahead. Maybe some crying in the pillow. We´ll see.
