Jiggy is mos def on the block

I could see a play being made for Giggy. Even with the fairly large cap hit he’s an upgrade in goal and can help Monster continue to develop, plus he can work with Allaire again.

Hagman and Stajan for Giggy and a 1st

I love

how the trade ended up being soooooooo much better than this

Stajan AND a decent defensive prospect for Micky Ribs and a decent defensive prospect? (big Phil, Blacker and Mikus the only ones I can think of)?

Stajan has 6 more goals and the same amount of assists and isnt a chicken shit diving POS.
this makes no sense

ribs and a mid round pick rather…

Yeah I don’t like this either. Ribeiro is at best a similar player to Stajan. The pick can help but having to give up a prospect doesn’t make sense for us either. Terrible trade if this is what goes down.

yeah, I think ribeiro has a higher offensive ceiling than Stajan (in both scoring goals and actually offending people ) but he isnt as good a two way player and the only other thing he does better is draw penalties.
It is at best a lateral move, there has to be another part of this if there is any truth to the swap

$5M cap hit for this guy. NO THANK YOU. He would instantly become our new Jason Blake.

by JP Nikota on Jan 30, 2010 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

wow

that makes it even worse
Jeff Finger had better be going the other way or a first rounder coming back for that

Oh.

There’ll definitely be a finger going the other way if they try and sell us Ribiero.

by JP Nikota on Jan 30, 2010 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

Many fingers

$5M cap hit? Fuck that!

Ribeiro is a top line centre in the NHL

when he plays top line minutes he’s a PPG player.

He wouldn’t be expected to play D. The top 2 lines on the Leafs aren’t there to play D… that’s the bottom 6.

As for offensive upside vs. Stajan, it makes some sense to deal the expiring UFA for an incumbent offensive player to dish the puck to Kessel.

We’d have an offensive player to match with Kessel… I think that’s what they need for one more year.

If they deal Poni, Stajan, Stempniak, and possibly Hagman, that’s 4 of their top 9 forwards. If they only bring back Ribeiro, they’ll need someone to fill some of the gaps. Stålberg, Grabovski, Ribeiro, and Kulemin could all earn a spot on the top 2 lines, that leaves you with Kessel, Blake, Hanson, Mitchell, and one more player for the top 9.

That all may be true

but Ribiero is still a chicken shit piece of crap.

by lordosis on Jan 30, 2010 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

Yes except

Stajan has played 11 more games this season, and he’s never broken the 60 point plateau, while Ribeiro has done it numerous times.

Woooo Giguere! Would like to platoon him with Monster next year….

Also, I am going to pretend the Ribeiro thing is just fake. I mean, when is the last time you heard this much about a trade before it happened? I think we’re in the clear. (FWIW, I do think Ribeiro is way more talented than Stajan, but I still don’t want him).

Giggy at 7mill per is definently a no no. especially the way he’s played this year. If the ducks buy him out I wouldn’t mind having a look at him

Trade Finger for Giggy? anyone, anyone?

I bet we could take emminger back and bury him in the minors.

Loving the Leafs is like being in love with a drug-addled, gambling addicted prostitute with a heart of gold and a bunch of humanitarian awards from her youth. It’s hard. It hurts. But dammit! I just love them!

ha ha ha , how true

but maybe we can interest them in Blake & Toskala??
