Interesting to note
Philly now has 18 players signed for next year with combined $57.5M in salary, and no key RFAs to re-sign anymore (Carcillo and Powe are hardly key RFAs).
That’s pretty solid, but they have absolutely no room to add just about anyone anymore. Hopefully Zherdev doesn’t want a raise next year.

I lied
They still need to lock up Leino (who will be a UFA) but there’s no way they let him hit the market.
How they’re going to fit all this under the cap is sort of a mystery, especially if they want Zherdev back.

Bobrovsky’s still on his EL deal and I wouldn’t mind riding him through the next two seasons. I would personally just dump Meszaros, our 4 million dollar 5th D man. I think there comes a point where we no longer need to have an overpaid elite D to be an elite team. And that point is when our offense is absolutely stacked (Richards, Briere, Leino, Carter, Hartnell, Giroux, JVR, Zherdev…) and our goalie situation is shored up.
Simon Gagne may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home, but at the end of the day, he will always be a Philadelphia Flyer.

“Shored up” is a debatable statemen, but ya philly needs to dump Meszaros hard. That was a terrible trade.
Bobrovsky has played well, but so did Steve Mason his 1st year…

We can probably afford to trade a few more first rounders to get guys like this.

Let’s just assume that any top level pending UFA will re-sign with their team.
Let that sink in…
Now we can go and cry in the corner.

Brad Richards was traded to Dallas for Mike Smith and Jeff Halpern. Let that sink in.
Teams will always need to get rid of players they can’t afford. One of the things I count on Burke for is to be in the loop when guys are on the trade block, either through his own persistence or from other GMs knowing Brian is always up for trade talks.

True – my point is ’don’t get your hopes up.’
If by some miracle a good C comes available way of UFA then we can rejoice.
