Lupul will be ready mid month according to the Orange County Register. He was cleared for full practice early in the week.
His modified No Trade is void until the upcoming deadline because the Ducks missed the playoffs. He’s a 4.25 cap hit until 2013 and a salary that will be coming off the insurance claim and on to the Duck’s payroll. The owner has a tight spending cap to keep them in the mid range sweet spot for max equalization. Murray is squeezed and hurting even worse with a couple of Dmen out. They need to move money and get their asses in gear or they can write off this year too. Murray was quoted as shopping for reliable DMen who are mobile and can move the puck.
Lupul is a big risk, he hasn’t played since the back operation, never mind the spinal infection. He seems to be a space cadet, but you don’t need a Phd to be a big body with soft hands..
The guy did score 10 in 23 games before he went down last year. He already had a couple of 20 plus goals & 40 points seasons. He's not ancient, he's 27.
Ask for the Duck’s 1st pick to take Lupul off their books, and send them a couple of cheap & reliable Dman like Lebda & Richmond, or Lashoff, whichever combo they want. If they only want Lebda, fine. I’d send Kaberle or Beauchemin but Murray needs cheap. That should be enough player value going back to get a nudge nudge wink wink from the NHL office, so they will register the trade.
I’ve been beating a deal for Lupul like a dead horse for months, to make it when the time came. I follow Lupul’s twitter. The time has come for Burke and Murray to make nice again. Taking back Giguire’s money for Blake and 5 Hole worked out OK.
Worst that can happen, Lupul goes down again. So what, then he goes on Burke’s IR, goes off the cap, and Burke goes and sells the cap space again. Actually, that might be better than him being able to play. So Burke can't lose.
It’s all about buying the pick with that 4.7 mil burning a hole in Burke’s pocket.
