Ian White traded to Carolina in a 4 person deal
Wow... Poor Ian White is traded to another very bad team. Next stop, Islanders?

its going to be awkward with him and Erik Cole….“uh, hey, remember when i hip checked you, sent you flying, then punched your blood out?…yeah that was awesome”
Or maybe he’ll approach it more along the lines of
If you ever bring up that time I flipped you over my back and then punched you up, I’ll do it again. I swear. Capiche?
Although it’s hard to imagine Ian White taking on that tone.

Heh. The Giordano extension really was writing on the wall for White. Still, I like the guy so I feel bad for him.

The Phaneuf trade:
Is now
TORONTO:
Dion Phaneuf
Fredrik Sjostrom
Keith Aulie
CALGARY:
Matt Stajan
Niklas Hagman
Anton Babchuk and/or Tom Kostopolous
Thanks, Sutter! You just made that trade seem that much more worth it.

The Phaneuf trade isn’t nearly as bad for Calgary if they don’t blow all the cap space they saved by re-upping Stajan like that. They turned 7.2M in cap space (Phaneuf + Sjostrom) into 9.5M (Hagman + Stajan + White)
Worst part was, White was the guy who the CGY side was saying made it a ‘win’ for them… ugh.
Sutter is just a bad GM, and honestly I feel horrible for whoever his successor is with like 12 NTCs and NMCs to deal with.

Bunch of turncoats out here
All last night on the radio they were going on about how Whitey was a minus-10 and just wasn’t playing well enough. I’m believing less and less that there was actually a problem with Dion and more that they just ran him out of town because they needed a scapegoat.
They’re reeeeeeally split on what to do about Jarome nowadays too.

They are so close to the bottom that right now the only play is to blow the team up. Bouwmeester can be part of the bridge to the next team with Bourque but the rest is such crap.

Giordano isnt too bad himself, but he is at best a high end complimentary piece

yeah, ive said the same before
Bourque
Bouwmeester
Backlund
Giordano
is not that bad of a starting point for a rebuild.
They could get a crapload of picks/prospects/young players for Kipper, Iginla, and Regehr…. other pieces like Hagman, Morrison, Sarich, etc could easily find buyers also.
