Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Actually, the first jersey I got as a kid was a Toronto Maple Leaf. I still have a picture when I’m seven years old wearing it.

I thought this was interesting. It shows just how popular the leafs are.

The city is unbelievable too and the fans are great. I can keep going and going. It wasn’t a tough decision.

I love that he said it wasn’t even a tough decision.

He’s quickly becoming my favourite Leafs goalie ever (I don’t have many memories of Cujo and less of Belfour)

I miss Mats.

Then you obviously don’t remember Felix ‘The Cat’ Potvin.

Every single one of my friends had the exact same 2 pictures in their room when I was a kid:
1x Felix ‘The Cat’ Potvin and 1x Doug Gilmour. Both were about 8×11 and mounted on hard black corkboard.

I think those hung on my wall until 1998, 1999.

When they were stolen from your home, I assume?

painted my room and started putting up posters of bands, wrestlers, movies, etc… high school stuff, you know?

It was actually the lull in my NHL watching.. HNIC if I was around but not much else. Then by grade 12 I was back into it & university… and then the lockout hit

I had that.
I also had the one with Burns, Gilmour, Clark, and one other guy dressed in leathers with motorcycles.

Of course, the pickings have been rather slim the past few years to say the least.

Please...There's no comparison based on who's left in your memory bank.

Fixed.

Wow you’re young.

I was 6 in ‘93, but still remember Felix The Cat. He was wicked all around, and he kicked Hextall’s ass.Cujo was awesome, and Belfour was too pre-lockout. All three of them had sweet masks too.

Yea I was 8, but I can remember it well enough, loved those Leafs.

yeah, I’m afraid that in 20 years, the only Leaf goalie memories I’ll have from my childhood will be those two

Hey, if you’re gonna call us birds you might as well call us chickens.

Well it could have been worse. Glenn Healy was part of my childhood memories and he was even worse than Raycroft and Toskala. The guy posted consistent .880s in the dead puck era.

by Theodles on Nov 23, 2010 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

In all fairness, he was only a backup. =D

Though that would mean he posted .880s against some of the weakest teams in the league.

Luckily you still have many years left in your childhood to accumulate some memories of good Leafs goalies.

My favourite Leaf goalie is probably Allan Bester. Not based on stats or anything. Just based on flare. I also kind of liked Jeff Resse. And Cujo and Felix. And Grant Fuhr. We’ve had some good goalies.
