David Hutchison of InGoal magazine has the first shots of Jean-Sebastien Giguere's newest helmet. There's a neat twist behind the designer too. Head over there for six more shots of the beauty.

A neat twist? F-X is one of the more prominent mask designers, you should read InGoal more often.

Right
Even so it’s neat for me that it’s Francois’ son.

Aside from the leaf getting shattered with the puck, the rest looks like a 50s era cartoon scene and bland because it’s the same scene on both sides. I’ll give it a 3/10.

Yeah I really don’t get the same scene on both sides thing, is there nothing else the artist/giggy could think of putting on the mask other than the CN tower?
They must really like the tower and street cars. It’s literally just a mirror image. Lazy.

I’m on board with it. I like symmetry.

Seconded. Although I think symmetry generally works better when it’s two halves of the same thing, rather than an entire scene mirrored on each side.

I like that one
Seriously, do like the style this was done in.
It DOES look like a old 50’s-60’s cartoon scene, and that’s probably why I like it that much.
Only slight downside is the mirror image, but I’ll live.
Thumbs up.
I wasn’t a huge fan of his current mask so its nice to see he’s making a change.

I like his big, light blue leaf mask. I know it’s somewhat generic, but it looks good.
This one is kind of cool, but the i think the blue blood looks weird.
Better than his old one for sure, but nowhere near as cool as Gustavsson’s

It really needs to be polished, from those pics, but the blue really pops.

Timmy Freakin Thomas!
I know he’s a Bruin, but that thing is incredible.
Like sacrificial virgins, we all burn in different ways. You are a fast explosion and I am the embers.
Designing and painting goalie masks would be such an incredible job. Really wish I had the creative talent for it!

Personally, I think you do, cmaple. You need to buy a couple of mask blanks and an air-brushing kit and start fooling around.
On a side note, I remember hearing a rumour for the longest time that there was a lady in Brockville, Ontario that did a huge amount of NHL masks. Could never confirm it.
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
Nah, I’m way short on creative talent. I can turn pictures or images into art, but when it comes to thinking up things and then getting them down on paper/canvas/mask/whatever I have literally no skill. I think there are two common misconceptions:
(1) Artistic skill = creative skill
(2) Realism (ie. my style of art) does not require artistic skill
I’d say that you can be artistic without being creative, and vice versa. Also realism requires a high degree of artistic skill but very little creative skill. So in short, I can do just fine drawing a picture of Gustavsson wearing his mask, but if he contacted me and asked me to design him a mask I wouldn’t be able to come up with anything even half-way decent.

If you want to get started put up flyers at local rinks. Forget buying test masks; plenty of young kids will give you their masks if you work cheap.
I had all of my masks painted by a dude who airbrushed motorcycles. There were a couple times that he had to strip the mask more than once because it looked awful but he worked cheap and in the end it looked good. Now he charges like $300+ for a mask paintjob.
