Yeah, it seems like the first half of that sentence was part of a standard response, then Giggy couldn’t come up with another hockey cliche to finish it out, so then in the second half the truth comes out.

I think the point was to let him know that they miss having him there and well, when someone close to you dies, there isn’t much you can say. So they probably are hoping he’ll crack a smile.

I think they were trying to keep it lighthearted… i doubt they were doing anything disrespectful with regard to Dion or his family.
