Another weekend series matching collegiate powerhouses took place up in Grand Forks, ND as host University of North Dakota faced off against Notre Dame in the Subway Holiday Classic. The Fighting Sioux got the upper hand on the Fighting Irish finishing the weekend with a resounding 6-3 win on Nov. 26 and posting a 2-2 tie the following night....Senior Matt Frattin (TOR) continued his torrid scoring pace netting his team-leading 13th goal on Saturday. Frattin’s goal, which came on the power play, was his sixth of the season and currently co-leads the nation in that category

Good news.
Giving this guy an extra chance may yet prove beneficial. Maybe.
Oh, you better believe that's a paddling.
i just hope his DUI and destruction of property incidents are just youthful folly, and not indicative that this guy is a gong show.
My optimism can beat up your optimism.

You mean like

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
Frattin is a senior
and he could easily be playing in Toronto before the end of this season. He’s 22 years of age and in 16 games he has 13 goals and 4 assists for 17 points as a top RW.

Correction
with a goal and assist in Friday’s 3-1 win over St. Cloud State, Frattin has 14 goals and 5 assists for 19 points in 17 games.

Among ALL NCAA players: Frattin is tied for 12th with 19 points, tied 4th for goals per game, but tied for 25th for PPG.
U-Miami (Ohio)’s got some top point producers, all undrafted. Rankings.
The experiment failed: Get rid of the trapezoid.
Miami
won the NCAA title last season didn’t they? I think the RedHawks are likely one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the entire country… North Dakota is good, but they aren’t considered that good I don’t think.

also
NCAA hockey seems to be filled with smaller speedy skill guys that put up big points but are unlikely to ever play in a significant role in the NHL… at least historically speaking. That might be changing with the rule changes in the NHL, but it’s a slow process.
Case in point – NCAA leading scorer Carter Camper of U-Miami (Ohio) averages 2.0 pts per game, with 34 points in 17 games, but he’s 5’9" and 173 lbs. He’s also racking up lots of points against the likes of Northern Michigan and Alaska (12 of his 34 points in 4 games?)
Frattin is 6’ and 200 lbs, and he had a hat trick and 5 points against Bemidji St., and 2 goal games against Wisconsin and Nebraska-Omaha.. he’s more suited to the NHL with his body than a player like Camper would be.

Miami
No, Miami DID NOT win the NCAA title. They got destroyed by the eventual champs, Boston College 7-1 in the semifinals. North Dakota was pre-ranked number 2 behind BC going into the season playing the toughest schedule in the nation, unlike Miami’s cupcake schedule. North Dakota also has a very strong reputation with the NHL and developing players to get to the NHL. There are many this year that believe North Dakota is the best team in the country, no matter what their ranking is, and one of the favorites to win the NCAA title.
UND?

Ok
so I stand corrected… sort of
USCHO has U-Miami (Ohio) ranked 6th and North Dakota ranked 7th as of Nov. 29th.
I will acknowledge that ND has had a tougher schedule so far. Minnesota-Duluth and Nebraska-Omaha are ranked 1 and 4 respectively, and UND has a 2-1-1 record against the two of them.
Denver is on a roll right now having won 7 games in a row. They beat Minnesota-Duluth 5-4 in OT yesterday.
North Dakota is the only team to beat Minnesota Duluth in regulation all year so far.

Just by way of comparison
Tyler Bozak’s career best in two years of WCHA hockey was his 18 goals in 41 games. In his senior year he had 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 19 games.
Viktor Stalberg played in the slightly more challenging Hockey East conference and posted 24 goals and 22 assists in 39 games as a senior.
Frattin is on track for around 30 goals this season if he maintains his current pace.

Kessel
in his one year in the WCHA with Minnesota posted 18 goals and 33 assists for 51 points in 39 games.
He’s freaking good.

Only freshman to win the Hobey … notched 25 goals and 75 assists for 100 points in 39 games during his only full season of college hockey … helped the Black Bears to an impressive 42-1-2 overall record, along with NCAA and Hockey East titles, in 1992-93 … won the 1992-93 Hockey East scoring title with 15 goals and 48 assists in conference play, a record for a freshman … had a Hockey East record 23-game scoring streak and a school record 31-game scoring streak in 1992-93
Holy shit.

Yeah

Kessel was a freshman. That’s a huge deal in the NCAA.

The one slightly comforting thing I am reminded of seeing this post is that Burke undoubtedly has multiple people keeping very close tabs on the college diamonds in the rough.
