Bruins at Leafs

7PM ET: CBC, NHLN (US)

Tim Thomas vs. Jean-Sebastien Giguere

J-S Giguere enters this game as the proud owner of the 38th best save percentage among qualified goaltenders. Behind him on the list are only Antti Niemi, Mike Smith, Dan Ellis, Nikolai Khabibulin and Rick DiPietro. Tim Thomas' 0.956 is the best in the league.

The Leafs are going to have to get excellent defense and goaltending and then cash in on the power play if they want to have a chance tonight. Hold on tight Leafs fans, I think we're in for a bumpy ride.

Yeah were boned. Im looking forward to the unnecessary cheers from the crowd like, “TRADE KESSEL” or sarcastically when the Bruins score with Kessel on the ice, “THANK YOU KESSEL”.

Though I don’t believe the ACC is smart enough to put together a sarcastic thank you kessel chant.

We need to win. In the middle of studying for midterms (which start monday) so I can’t even drink much during the game (need to keep studying after), and I don’t think my stressed out-ness can take another soul-crushing defeat. Come on leafs, I need this.

by Shield on Dec 4, 2010 3:57 PM EST reply actions

midterms…isn’t it time for finals? I dont miss school

by TheDeek on Dec 4, 2010 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

Finals

are in January usually.

But yeah Midterms now is kinda weird… Midterm in Uni/College should end up being around Hallowe’en or early November… not halfway through December.

In first year law we have 5 classes that go for the whole year (September-April), so we have midterms now and finals in April.

In undergrad we would always have Finals for fist semester in December and second semester in April.

by Shield on Dec 4, 2010 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

full year courses suck. Just my opinion.

by Steve Burtch on Dec 4, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

They do, though most of ours are kind of split into two ‘parts’ that are basically separate.

The only distinction between midterms and finals is the weighting, these are worth 20-30% and finals 70-80 (despite both tests being for half the course). They do it this way so we can use midterms as a guage on how to improve for finals.

Just sucks because they are going to cut into my hockey watching a lot, though the way the Leafs are playing I don’t mind right now.

by Shield on Dec 4, 2010 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

I can’t even imagine this. I have friends that went to Carleton and most of their classes in the first 2 years were full years…how do you remember all that crap for the final in april

by TheDeek on Dec 4, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

It's weird to think

Armstrong is the “veteran leadership” on this forward group. But he’s played 4 full NHL seasons.

Sjostrom is in his 7th season, so I guess he’s more of a vet who has played regular minutes.

Beyond that we don’t have many regulars that have been around for long.

Obviously what we have up front isn’t working, and there’s no veteran presence to settle down the top 6 at all.

We need one. Virtually every young team has a veteran presence in the top 6 to aid in development. We don’t, and it shows. We’ve been shut out 6 times already.

I haven’t seen Chara pick anyone up and throw them around like a rag doll in a really long time (since McCabe I think)… maybe tonight is the night? I think he could throw Kadri or Versteeg halfway across the rink… sort of like the NHL’s own version of midget toss.

So, Maybe the boys can win a game tonight. I like the new lines, with the exception of the inexplicable Kadri line. hopefully that changes. Go Leafs!!!! Go!!!

Lines are anything but set in stone. Kadri will probably spend time on at least 3 lines tonight, plus PP time.

The Marlies are now tied for 1st in the Western Conference with SA in the AHL!

That team has almost nothing on offense, yet wins many of its games with terrific defense and stellar goaltending. Hmm…

by Leafer87 on Dec 4, 2010 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

They did score 6 last night

It’s not “nothing”, but ya 90% of the reason they are winning is the goaltending.

I think only 1 have their wins have come where they have outshot the opponent.

I more meant almost nobody on offense. They don’t really have a legit scoring threat, aside from maybe Ziggy and Hodgman?

Incredible goaltending from both Reimer and Rynnas. At least we finally got goaltending in this system.

by Frag on Dec 4, 2010 6:23 PM EST up reply actions

plus they're young and cheap

once jiggy’s 22 million a year or whatever comes off the books, there will be loot for some offense. (if there is anybody available.) plus the cap is going up 2 mil

The Marlies are 7th in the AHL with 76 goals for. They are 12th in the AHL with 3.04 GF/GM.

I just can’t buy that they’ve got “nothing” on offense.

Oop, that’s 11th in the AHL with 3.04 GF/GM. Forgot to exclude my header line.

Let's Play Stupid Trade Tricks

Kessel to LA for Schenn, Simmonds & LA’s 1st. The Kings think they are 1 scoring winger from the big dance & they are right. Don’t underestimate the impact of bringing an American star into that market, even if he does look like a bridge troll.

Beauchemin to The Ducks for Lupul and Duck’s 2nd. Lupul is in the A and scoring. He means over 20 mil tied up in the Duck’s top 4 forwards, too much, they have to move him. They need a D. Beauchemin was lights out for Carlysle. This is really a long term salary dump, which is why they prolly give up the pick.

Kadri, Gunnerson, Bozak and Guffstasson for Spezza and Ottawa’s 1st pick. Big pressure is on Stuttering Murray. Ottawa is losing money and losing with Spezza anyway. Murray needs to get out from under a big contract and start the rebuild, or he is toast. He can’t afford another Heatley fiasco.

We are already screwed this year. Sign Giggy for 1 more until Scrivens, Reimer, or the Bus are ready. I love the Monster, but you play with the chips you have or end up where we are now.

The D will look as thin as ricepaper, so what, the kids in the A deserve a shot, it can’t get any worse, can it? Besides, the best 3 to keep are Phanuef, Schenn and Aulie, they aren’t going anywhere.

Ron Wilson to Murmansk for a peasant woman with a goiter.

That is sick overpayment for Spezza. Aren’t these fantasy trade scenarios supposed to be tilted wildly in OUR favour? Whatever happened to Mitchell for Crosby

A 27 year old who will be 30 or 31 before we are ready to compete? Yeah, let’s ship out a bunch of our brightest young players for that.

by Wan Ihite on Dec 4, 2010 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

If you check

Kessel goes to LA for a power forward his age, a centre who is 3 years younger, and a pick
Beachemin is 30 and goes to the Dicks for a 27 year old power forward, and a pick.
We give up players 24, 25, and 20 for a 27 year old just in his prime dominant scorer. And a pick.
The team that gets the best player, Spezza, who is still young, that team wins the deal.
Look over all the numbers I just gave you. This team gets younger, not even counting the picks.

Why don’t you explain to me how they are getting older?

by Infield Pete on Dec 4, 2010 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

But this team isn’t really built on Beauch… in this case you’d be switching a role player who’d get old for a headline player who only has 2 or 3 years left before he starts sliding out his prime… at which point he might become a solid role player like beauch, but is no longer likely to be in his game-breaking prime.

Spezza is also prone to making silly decisions however, a few too many drop passes are his trademark….He’s no Joe Thornton but still a good player

Toronto Maple Leafs: Can't even beat Edmonton

by LeafFan1989 on Dec 4, 2010 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

I didn't say he was Joe Thornton.

I said he is worth trading for. He is what every contender needs, a true big strong & talented first line centre. And I say these guys don’t grow on trees and they are hardly ever available.

Sundin was no Thornton either, and scored less than Spezza, but he was a Hall of Famer, Best Leaf I ever saw. Too many of us overrate guys like Kessel and Kadri because they pull on the jersey. They are good, but not as good as many fans think. The same fans underrate players like Spezza because he does NOT pull on a Leaf jersey.

Type in the box below – the first one is the title, and for the love of all that is holy, reply to yourself if it’s on topic, rather than starting a new line of drivel. The Senators will not trade Spezza, and as good as he may be, we will not be acquiring him.

The experiment failed: Get rid of the trapezoid.

The Original Title Was

’Let’s Play Stupid Trade Tricks." It doesn’t take much in the way of grey matter to figure out that it was as much a tongue in cheek post, as anything. Somehow you missed that.
It’s your turn to drivel again. Turn on your 7th brain cell, think you need it.
