Giguere to start tuesday and rest of the season
Jean-Sebastien Giguere will start his very first game as a Leaf tomorrow night against the Devils, this acorrding to Ron Wilson who told reporters at today practice "He"ll get the majority of starts the rest of the way."
There was also a Dion Phaneuf sighting with him wearing the number 3 jersey which belong to Exelby. Phaneuf was paired up with Francois Beauchemin in practice with Luke Schenn paired up with Garnet Exelby and Tomas Kaberle paired up with Carl Gunnarsson. Now, I like those pairing for the game on Tuesday night but going forward it just does not suit me. I hope once Komi gets healthy pair that they him up with Schenn, Kaberle with Phanuef and Gunnarsson with Beauchemin and get rid of Exelby.
I understand you have to make Giguere the starter because he is making starters money with his salary being $6 million but in my opinion he will be a bit rusty after playing 4 or 5 games in a row and you have to give Jonas Gustavsson a chance to show some of that talent that made him a target coming out of the Swedish Elite League

Good Thoughts
I definitely prefer splitting up Gunnarsson and Kaberle and I think that Beauchemin/Gunnarsson is probably the line that Wilson will use going forward. He’s been using it a lot lately.
Agree 100% with getting rid of Exelby but I am guessing that today’s news will be that Komisarek is getting shut down for the year.

Get rid of Exelby? How about get rid of Finger?

Baby steps ;)
Exelby can be done right now. Finger will take some time.

I would like to see,
Kaberle – Komisarek
Beauchmen – Gunnerson
Phanuef – Schenn
I think Scheen would benefit from playing with Phanuef, plus we’d might get to see a few sandwich hits
40 years we've stayed loyal, waited, and pained. That is the honor of being a Leafs' fan.
I don’t think Schenn and Phaneuf would be good on the same line. They both are aggressive defenders and need a partner who can bail them out at times.

I really doubt Phaneuf will be playing 3rd pairing minutes either.
I’d prefer Phaneuf with some one who can move the puck… Kaberle, Gunnarsson, or even Beauch is pretty good. Not Schenn or Komi.

Really peculiar for me seeing Giguere getting most of the starts. At the worst, I would have thought a 50/50 split. Gustavsson has to play if he’s going to learn, and it’s best now with the throw away games.

Don’t care. Gotta give Gustavsson ice time and frequent ice time. Not saying Gus needs to be the #1… but he needs at minimum, 1 game a week. He needs to learn and get better. You don’t do that by riding the pine.
Jiggy is 32…. Gus is 24.

"Jiggy will get the bulk of the work and we’ll spot Jonas hopefully once a week," Wilson said. "Jonas will have someone who can help mentor him and play the same style as our goalie coach wants to play."
According to mapleleafs.com
So hopefully he won’t just be sitting on his arse the whole time.
Call me superstitious, but I'm pretty sure the Leafs do better when I'm drinking.
Elliotte Friedman also pointed out that one consideration is that the Leafs feel that Gustavsson is exhausted.

well that true, i can understand that then because you are playing 3 games a week in the nhl plus all the travel to god know how many less in sweden

Plus the fact that about the farthest you’d have to travel in the SEL is about a 4 hour flight, most likely.

Might be a salary-control thing. Give Gus less bargaining power for this off-season. It’s not like playing one over the other is the difference between the lottery and PLAYOFFS!!1
