by then it could be as good as a late first rounder

If Moore is a 2nd rounder

Poni might get traded for the Hurricanes’ first rounder.

Not really relevant

Moore was worth a 2nd rounder because thats what Brian Burke said he’s worth.

If either Florida or Montreal tried to do otherwise, they would have been defying the Word of Burke, and would promptly have their first round picks forfeited. To us.

Burke knows all

by Death_By_Leafs on Feb 11, 2010 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

Burke sold high. Montreal bought higher than even Buffalo by paying the same for a guy not playing as well.

I think Burke called up FLA and taught them how to “turn nobody’s into valuable trades”

See: Mayers, Jamal; Toskala, Vesa; Blake, Jason; Moore, Dominic (first time)

and Poni = 2 firsts and a 2nd

this is a brutal first trade for Gauthier

they just traded a 2nd round pick, from an organization with a very thin prospect group, for a 3rd line rental center

lol, Montreal

Did Florida send them tape of last year or something?

Columbus: It's amazing how fast the world can go from bad to total shit storm.
Or the Leafs season: either one works

Just the other day, a friend and I were wondering whether Anaheim would move for Moore now that they’re saddled with Blake, in hopes that they’d make each other non-terrible again. I guess it’s not to be.

by puckurgently on Feb 11, 2010 7:22 PM EST reply actions

IS THIS REAL LIFE!?

Is Pierre Gauthier really just Bob Gainey’s schizophrenic alter-ego who only emerges after he’s been weightlifting and doing cocaine all day?

I loved DM while he was here, but WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?

I’m going over to RDS for some franco-reaction.

by JP Nikota on Feb 11, 2010 7:32 PM EST reply actions

The great thing

Is everyone who was doubting whether or not the loss of Gainey would stop the Habs from making dumb moves can now rest peacefully with this knowledge that the new guy thinks Dominic Moore is worth a 2nd rounder

Willing to trade humour for cash, straight up.

by Archimedies on Feb 11, 2010 7:45 PM EST reply actions

Right now, over at RDS, franco-Habs fans are responding to this with the following sentiments:

1) A 2nd ROUNDER!?
2) I thought Bob Gainey left.
3) I hope this means that we get Frolov. (Note: WHAT!? Yes. They think that this could be the first step in something bigger, specifically for Frolov.)
4) Dominic Who?
5) This means we’re sending down guys that have been doing well, and/or not giving guys in Hamilton a chance.

by JP Nikota on Feb 11, 2010 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

number 3 sounds like a fraud readers reaction. he always claims one trade is to make room for another or more than 2 teams involved.

by 6rick6 on Feb 11, 2010 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

So now

Two teams have traded 2nd round picks for a guy John Ferguson Jr. claimed off of waivers.

Am I reading this right?!?

actually

JFJ found some decent players for nothing. one of about 2 things he did right.

Loving the Leafs is like being in love with a drug-addled, gambling addicted prostitute with a heart of gold and a bunch of humanitarian awards from her youth. It’s hard. It hurts. But dammit! I just love them!

did they not pay attention to Moore after the deadline last year?

WAT

Nice trade Gauthier. Are you just trying to put us all at ease by convincing us that you are as terrible a GM as Gainey was? Because I think it’s working!

He was a free agent for six months and no one wanted him then. So he isn’t good enough to sign, but he is good enough to trade for. How does that work?

And he’s a free agent to be?

Niiiiice.
