Deveaux Suspended Indefinitely For Throwing Tape at a Fan

Toronto Marlies forward Andre Deveaux has been suspended indefinitely by the American Hockey League for throwing a roll of tape at a fan during Friday's game in Winnipeg.

The league has conducted a disciplinary hearing into Deveaux's actions, which were allegedly a response to racial slurs.

~~The Marlies are still awaiting the AHL's final decision.~~

Update: The AHL has suspended Deveaux for three games; two of which he has already sat.

I get the feeling Burke mentioned truculence to him, and he got the wrong idea.

Hopefully this gets squared away, and he’s able to move on from it.

I don’t think that this will be a major issue for him to deal with. I doubt he’ll be suspended more than a few games. After all, lobbing a roll of hockey tape over the glass at someone is unprofessional, but not dangerous.

No harm no foul to a certain extent....

This is such crap if the fan was using racist slurs. People like that deserve tape to the face. It`s not like it is dangerous. I know the league and society in general needs to deter violent responses, but we need to start looking at things in context or one day tape throwing could lead to assault charges. One game if the racist slurs can be confirmed.

As a teacher candidate

I have learned that some ridiculous things can be construed as assault. It’s frightening. I broke the same kid’s nose two consecutive years in elementary school. I received little more than a slap on the wrist, he deserved it.
