Who had 'four days' in the pool?
Editor's Note: Who wouldn't kill for a Cox Bloc flashback? Well, Godd Till doesn't want you to shed any blood so here is one without any prompting.
Congratulations to Bruce Dowbiggin and his grainy, Geocities headshot for being the first mittenstringer to take a crack at Dion Phaneuf. Today he lit into the newest Leaf godhead for his wooden media persona. The money quote:
It will be crucial for him – and for Toronto GM Brian Burke – that Phaneuf mature beyond the LaLoosh media clone if he's to fulfill his enormous potential and be considered a Norris Trophy candidate once more.
There you have it: Phaneuf's return to Norris form isn't about fixing his defensive lapses or regaining his goalscoring form, it's about whether he can learn to play pattycake with the Michael Landsbergs and Howard Bergers of the world.
Hey Bruce, for the thousandth time - we don't care about your job. A player's performance has absolutely nothing to do with whether he gives you the soundbites you like. Obviously we want players to treat the people they talk to with respect but beyond that, I'll take a grumpy Phaneuf over a Johnny Goodquote like Paul Maurice any day, thanks. William Houston knew he was reporting on the stories - you think you are the story. You're not. Kudos for waiting till Wednesday to rip the kid though, that must have been agonizing.

Just perfect. If only you could transmit acid by the Internet, Bruce’s face would be melting right now.
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
Phaneuf should agree to a one-on-one with Bruce, just so long as it’s on skates and on a rink with good, solid boards. We’d get some good quotes out of that one, I’m sure.

I have to thank Bruce for this in one respect – for the first time ever, I learned something from Globe and Mail comments. Apparently Landsberg has tiny hands and people find that distracted. I guess I was always too focused on his full, pouty lips to notice…
/laughing ass off
You seem to have tapped into a good well, though. The commentators almost en masse are frying Doughy Bruce as I type.

Definitely the first stream of comments on an article page, where the majority of them are trashing the writer. Awesome.
Dowbiggen is an uber-douche and always has been here. He takes any pot-shots he can conceive of at the Leafs, whether or not they’re correct or accurate. God, you should hear him on the radio.

HIJACKER!
That was exciting.

You hit the nail on the head
I’m so sick of lazy reporters/columnists rehashing old stories, ripping players or coaches for not giving good quotes, or simply commenting on another media person’s interview. Hey Bruce, get off your ass and find a real story, or give up your space in that rag to someone else.
referring to Bull Durham. Tim Robbin’s character was ‘Nuke Laloosh’, and there was a scene where Costner was teaching him to use sports cliches in interviews.
Crash Davis – It’s time to work on your interviews.
Nuke LaLoosh – My interviews? What do I gotta do?
Crash Davis – You’re gonna have to learn your clichés. You’re gonna have to study them, you’re gonna have to know them. They’re your friends. Write this down: “We gotta play it one day at a time.”
Nuke LaLoosh – Got to play… it’s pretty boring.
Crash Davis – Course it’s boring, that’s the point. Write it down.

Baseball’s a simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sometimes, it rains. Think about that for a second.

I am so glad I avoid the so-called 'Mainstream Media'
What a load of crap(not just what he is saying… just Bruce in general is a load of crap.)
Also, I would be interested to find out by what % the site traffic/comments have increased since Sunday, Bloody Sunday.

Ugh.
I read this earlier. What a crock… this is “journalism”? I think we all knew what Dion’s interviews were like before this. I wish we could get some real coverage from these guys.

I guess...
…the mittenstringers got sick of finding new ways to write “Leafs fleece Flames, Ducks.” Someone’s gotta be a contrarian.
BOOM!

Dowbiggin ripped Ian White on Calgary radio this week as well.
Said he was a 14 min a game player who was inconsistent. The link is still on their site

Also the same day another Globe hack Eric Duhatschek said that Nik Hagman was a run of the mill player the type you can pick up anywhere (because 30 goal scorers are so common I guess.).

i prefer Phaneuf's interviews
to Crosby’s any day. They both don’t really say anything, but at least Dion doesn’t come off like a complete asshole when he’s doing it. Or if he does, he does it with a grin on his face.
Loving the Leafs is like being in love with a drug-addled, gambling addicted prostitute with a heart of gold and a bunch of humanitarian awards from her youth. It’s hard. It hurts. But dammit! I just love them!

yeah
when Phaneuf sounds like an asshole, it’s deliberate.
Crosby just can’t find a media personality that works.

Awesome!
This guy is, has been, and always will be a complete hack. What a waste of newsprint and bandwidth.

Great job.
