Current "Gettin' Giggy wit It" Status: Severe
Luke owns Ottawa so much, they should just rename the team the "Schennators"
Our very own Archimedies, via Twitter
It's hard to imagine that the Blue and White wouldn't be charged up for the fourth battle of Ontario of the year after events of the last few days, but those boys certainly delivered at the ACC last night.
Choicest cut - it's my strong contention that JS is channelling Jet Li in Hero right at this moment in time. Granted, that would make Jonas into Maggie Cheung, but stick with me here.
Looking forward to Leafs games, who da thunk it? What a difference a week makes....
- 5 - 0. Snapping the wining streak. Colton SMASH. I mean really...what's not to like? Toronto Sports Media, General Borschevky, Toronto Mike, Under The Helmet of Slava Duris and The Hockey News bring us some much needed good news. Counterpoints from Silver Seven and their (I implore you to read) game day thread.
- As there hasn't been a Marlies win on my FTB watch since the early Cretaceous period, this will be the last link they get until the situation improves. This tough love stance provided after a 2 - 1 defeat at the hands of the Hamilton Bulldogs.
- Big news. Big, bigger, biggest. Archimedies and the Handsome Man's Guide to Life with the latest cavalcade of Leafs In Suits - a photo study so sensual, it'd make Chuck Norris wet.
- JS Giguere is so hot, it's at Fahrenheit 451 right now. Suite 101 profiles the goalie who can actually, y'know, save pucks.
- I like to imagine that bkblades was swooping around the rafters of the ACC like the Phantom of the Opera whilst taking these pictures.
- Colton takes the lead, 2 to 1. Next bout, March 6th in Kanata.
- The non hockey link for today demonstrates that you don't need instruments to make musics. But what you ought to be doing is following Wrap's fine example and donating to PFLAG, in the US or in Canada.
It's some kind of HandEgg extravaganza today, right? Go one of those teams!

Thanks for posting nsnes gdt. What is wrong with them? They called the Beatles overrated? And they type all their comments in the title box.
They’re like the slow kid at school.

To be fair about the bold type, i’m pretty sure last night all of SBN was having problems. If you look at the Leafs 3rd period GDT everything is bolded.
Leafs Nation: A drinking team with a hockey problem.
Nah. That’s not bold text. It’s post title.

I have to agree with them, I think the Beatles are overrated. But I laughed at a lot of their comments. That GDT reeks of inferiority complex.

I liked the comment about how when we played them in the playoffs they were better than us, knew they were better, but couldn’t put it together.
Aye, right.

My favourite was “Leafs fans must be so jealous that we have Alfredsson” (or something to that effect.) Uhhhh no. Not a chance.

I think my favourite is how they mentioned Mike Brodeur a couple of times, but called him Martin. I guess they know they’re going to run him out of town anyway so why bother learning his name?
by Screaming Will on Feb 7, 2010 10:58 AM EST up reply actions
Beatles are overrated?
Well they’re only, you know, the most popular band in the history of anything anywhere. That’s tough to overrate.
I don’t think popularity has anything to do with it.
by CanadianMaple09 on Feb 7, 2010 10:48 AM EST up reply actions
The beatles are seminal. Zep and Stones, too. You can prefer one style over the other while still recognizing the important contributions. Everything the Beatles did, they were the first to do. Seminal.

I’m not a fan. More of a Stones/Zeppelin guy.

I hope not. I would rather have Rosehill on the 4th line than Stalberg.
I don’t see why they would mess with the lineup after the way the team played last night.

Mitchell? Would that work?
"We can categorically state that we have not released man-eating badgers into Iraq"
- Major Mike Shearer
Mitchell would have to clear waivers.
Plus I thought he had his best game in a while last night. Not that he was particularly great or anything. And it’s hard to look bad in a shutout/blowout situation.
Yeah, he’d have to clear waivers and Burke likes him for some reason.
yep. RW has a huge man crush on John Fucking Mitchell. I think Mitchell goes to line 4 while Stalberg plays with Hanson and Stemp.
Agreed, Mitchell’s the only logical choice for 4th line th way Wallin and Freddie have played together.

I’m so happy that the Schenn to the AHL talks have disappeared.
He just needed a bit of patience. That massive shakeup didn’t hurt either, although he was playing better even before Phaneuf arrived.
Leafs Nation: A drinking team with a hockey problem.
he’s playing with more confidence. He’s also been jumping up into the rush a lot lately. It’s been very surprising. Having Phaneuf really helps take the spotlight off of him.
Just like Bozak is taking the spotlight off of Kessel.
by CanadianMaple09 on Feb 7, 2010 10:24 AM EST up reply actions
I don’t know that I would say Bozak is taking the spotlight off Kessel, but he’s definitely the most talented player Kessel has played with all season. I really like Bozak’s game. His has a physical NCAA edge to his game. Finishes checks, excellent passer. His boardwork is fantastic. Kessel should be taking notes. However, the offense still begins and ends with Kessel. 6 G, 10 A last 14 games for Philthy Phil.
Also interesting how in Calgary they took the spotlight off of Phaneuf, and he faltered. With Schenn it was the opposite. Bringing in Phaneuf seems to have fixed the problems for both players.
by CanadianMaple09 on Feb 7, 2010 10:25 AM EST up reply actions
its simple, Phaneuf has an ego and thrives on the attention, Schenn is the quiet aw shucks type

Mother of God.
That was the single greatest game I’ve seen all year. Fleet Fox was absolutely annihalated last night. If the Leafs put a few of these wins together, I’m going to party myself out of teachers’ college. A few thoughts:
- Luke Schenn: I worried for the longest time that bringing him up to the bigs before giving him some time in the A may have killed his offensive abilities. Nope. Kid is just starting to find his game. HELL YES. There is tangible development going on here. I mean, the guy actually took a SLAP shot, and it actually WENT IN.
- Stempy: He made that PK his bitch. Awesome game.
- Phaneuf: If this guy had connected on a couple of those hits, we’d be talking about how far modern medicine has come, discovering a way to reattach Jason Spezza’s skull.
- KESSEL: Enough said.
- Hanson: More, please. This guy had an awesome night, even though he didn’t score.
- BOB COLE: CAN I GET A HELL YEAH? THIS MADE MY EVENING COMPLETE.
Bob Cole, despite his flaws, is easily one of the best and I miss him each time we are forced to listen to Hughson. Hoping he calls the rest of the games on HNIC for the Leafs this season!
Brain: The irony of it all, Pinky. Years of trying to take over the world, and all I had to do was say "truculence".

Cole did a better job last night than he did for the last Leaf game he called (was it that boring ass game against Florida?), IMO. And when he’s on, there is no better PBP man in the universe.

he was also getting NO help from the colour guy, if he has someone who can fill the empty bits with good in site (Miss you Harry, come back soon!) then he is nails.

Bob Cole really struggles in games without drama. That Florida game was so dreary and boring. Put the Leafs in an exciting, emotional, and meaningful game, and Bob Cole comes alive. He was great Saturday.

What better present can a guy ask for his 26th b-day?
A 5-0 shutout against the Sens…with Luke and Phil finding the back of the net…couldn’t ask for a better game!! GO LEAFS GO!!!
Allright kids, the word of the day is "Truculence"
Best quote from their GDT
This win streak cannot end in Toronto, because if it does, people everywhere will say “Wait, they lost to Toronto?” It will nullify the impressiveness that is an eleven game winning streak.
Firstly, I wasn’t even impressed with it in the first place, but there you have it, even they admit now that its no longer impressive.
Phaneuf Phever, an upgrade in skill and alliteration!
I don’t know why I said firstly if there was no secondly.

anyone else hugely impressed with how well Giguere’s handled himself since coming here? he seems intelligent and is very well spoken. it’s even more impressive considering he likely wan’t getting a tonne of practice w/ media hordes in anaheim.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
I imagine it is easier to deal with the media when you have posted 2 back to back shutouts. The true test on how someone handles themselves is after a string of poor play.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
he was very good speaking about burke’s son as well though, and how it was important for the team to put in a good effort for him. it sounded polished, but it also sounded sincere – it didn’t seem like he was just spouting off cliches.
but yes – it’s all good times now. we’ll see how he does after his first blowout or after his 5th straight loss.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
First blowout, 5th straight loss
Fingers crossed neither of those ever happens while he’s playing for the Leafs.
