What, Hockey?
Well strangely, I totally forgot that the Leafs existed this weekend. Well, not totally. Saturday afternoon I went to a spice party (and spent way too much money) and the hubby was coming over after the party, so he apparently watched the Leafs game for me, and informed me of their win. Then yesterday, my brother in law finally moved out of his parents place (at 37 years old) so we had to help. It is really amazing just how much crap someone can fit into one bedroom. Needless to say, I was unaware of the Leafs game at 2pm PST so I missed that loss too. The good thing about this is that we can completely rule out me watching Leaf games as a cause of them losing. The bad thing, that's two more games in the limited season we have left, and I would really like to watch the young guns play. Could someone maybe text me the next time there's a game so that I don't miss it?
Thanks!

Giggy played great for those first two shutouts. Then he remembered that he now plays on the Leafs and had to adjust his play style accordingly. He now fits the trend just fine!
Seriously though, the only difference between saturday and sundays game is that in one the leafs could score and in the other they couldn’t. Goaltending was about the same both letting in 4 goals.
Sorry for the negative attitude. I’m still at that point at which I haven’t accepted that soon I won’t see any more Leafs hockey for 6 months.
Oh god, 6 months is a long time! I’d been shutting that thought out of my mind. Now it’s front and center. Oh crap!

I worry about this trend
for all of Wilson’s talk about fitness, it’s all too common place for the Leafs to look flat on their feet in back to back affairs.
I have nothing interesting to say.
it was 5 games in like 8 days
I am not too worried. They are for the most part a very young team. I am pretty impressed with their overall fitness, and ability to play in tough schedules (how many OTs?).
My only problem is that in these games (and a lot of others) they do not seem to be playing 60 minute games. They VERY RARELY start strong and often need until like 10 or 11 minutes in to get going. That speaks coaching problem to me.
Or it’s like the last two games, where they start strong and then fade (Saturday it was the 3rd, yesterday it was the last 58 minutes of the game)
Phaneuf Phever, an upgrade in skill and alliteration!
Saturday
It wasn’t even that they faded, they just got sloppy defensively and in the neutral zone. They still seemed to be playing hard, just not playing smart.
But yeah its the same idea of not being able to give a consistent 60 minutes.
it's also
an indicator of not being very good.
The season is definite at its highest point now (not that that says much) and honestly, it’s just so demoralizing to watch them punt away points to crappy teams.

it’s from Epicure, I’m not sure if they’ve made it out east yet. It’s more spice blends than just spices, although they have all the basics in really good quality too.
Also, I learned that most people are cheap and buy spices in bulk from Costco, in those giant plastic jars. They were all shocked to know that sawdust is used as filler in those. I thought it was obvious, since they all smell like sawdust.

My brother in-law usually brings up Penzey’s from the states (BBQ Rub 3000 FTW) but I did find a sample pack (three or six very small plastic jars) at Pusateri’s.
Penzey’s will also ship to Canada.

Penzey’s extra special extra bold black peppercorns are unreal. You haven’t had black pepper until you’ve had these. My dad didn’t understand all the hooey (he’s not much of a cook) so I let him take a sniff of the bag. Instant convert.

Crazy Finish to PPPPP Season
SkinnyFish hasn’t updated on Div. 1 of the PPP Phantasy Puck since he moved up to FTB duties, but the playoffs (!!!1) are set to begin and holy hell were the final standings crazy.
2 teams finished 5th and 6th with 201 pts.
4 teams finished 7th – 10th with 200 pts.
11th place had 198 pts.
12th place had 197 pts.
I’ve never seen that close a finish in a fantasy hockey season.
Also, the people on the masthead (PPP, Chemmy, Karina and SkinnyFish) went 0 for 4 on making the playoffs. I’m not sure if this is grounds for their immediate dismissal.

Kadri finishes the OHL regular season with 93 points, good enough to tie for 4th overall. DiDom has been on fire as well. DiDom has 22 points in 12 games.
Also a sick +18 in those 12 games. A pace for 125 points and +102; both would league the lead by a mile. Drummondville (admittedly, a league power this year) hasn’t lost since his return.
Necessary provisos: (1) it’s the Q, and (2) he’s old for the CHL. But pretty damn impressive for a late round pick coming off a brokem femur. Looking forward to seeing him with the Marlies next year.

DiDom
has the highest PPG rate of any player in the Q. For a league high on scoring, that’s impressive. Unfortunately it’s only 12 games. If he kept that pace up for the entire season in the Q, he’d have a 29 point cushion for the scoring title.
Next Wayne Gretzky…?
(I kid, I kid. I hope against all logic it’s true, but I kid…)
I have nothing interesting to say.
Maybe someone who follows more closely than I can verify, but is DiDom playing Courturier? Apparently that kid is retarded good and could likely be the #1 pick in 2011.

AG = Ailier Gauche (sp?)
Otherwise known as left wing.
Very, very strange, however, that the team site would list them one way and the Q site has it reversed. I don’t know enough about the team to know which is correct.

The thing about DiDomenico is going to be his foot speed because of the thigh injury. He’s obviously a skilled player and might be covering up his injury with his hands, vision and hockey sense.

I don’t really think that matters though, I also hate when players try to fight people for clean hits, but if the guy is a scrapper and your team is down, why not use it as an opportunity to possible spark some momentum.
Also, if the ref had let them fight they would have gotten matching majors, and Caputi wouldn’t have put us down a man, the other guy even had his helmet off yet didn’t get anything because the linesman was as douchebag.

I know this is going to go over really well among the Capital fan base: If I was the organization, I wouldn’t be too angry about a short suspension. Someday, Ovechkin (like Chris Pronger) will get himself suspended/tossed from a crucial playoff game because he’s too reckless. He’s got to turn it down – just a little.

It will probably be some no-talent hack like Matt Cooke or someone of that variety that eventually gets him. It will probably be an awful and suspension-worthy play… but no one, least of all Ovie himself, will be able to say they didn’t see it coming.

the saddest thing about Cooke is he is actually a decent 3rd liner without the dirty play.
He’s not exactly Derek Booguard.

LOVE THIS
A woman came up to me at the grocery store and chewed me out, telling me if I thought I was going to take Mike (Fisher) away from Ottawa, I had another thing coming, and she wasn’t kidding. She let me know she loved him and he was going to stay here, period, no matter what I said. She might have been kidding, but she wasn’t being funny."

People like Mike Fisher?
I've always wanted to be a PPP Princess. You see kids, you can be anything you want to be; so long as Jay Leno doesn't also want to be that.
don’t you enjoy Fisher to an extent?
You are the closest thing I could think of as a “Fisher fan”.

I kinda liked him until all that Olympic talk started. Now he fall off the cliff with the rest of the Sens bus.
Columbus: It's amazing how fast the world can go from bad to total shit storm.
Or the Leafs season: either one works

Nope, no crazy people here in Ottawa. None whatsoever.
