Maple Leafs at S*nators: For All Of The Marbles
Tonight's home road game will decide a few season series and questions:
- Can Matt Carkner beat Colton Orr not once but twice to earn a draw?
- Are the S*nators over their flu?
- Will not having Mike Fisher be their new excuse for not beating the 2nd worst team in the NHL?
- Can the Leafs get the point they need to win the season series?
- Why does this still get called the Battle of Ontario?
The S*nators are seemingly safe in their playoff spot but they've also won only one game since the Olympic break so there's still hope for a hilarious collapse that will stunt the nascent Cory Clouston for Jack Adams Delusion Brigade.
Sorry for the terrible preview but my work IT department refuses to update Internet Explorer so my publishing capabilities are falling one-by-one. Jonas Gustavsson is starting for the Leafs and hopefully won't need six goals in order to pick up the win. The Leafs got some rest so that shouldn't be an issue.

I agree
They won’t upgrade from IE6 because too many ‘legacy’ systems are incompatible.

It’s a download and install to a flash drive – pretty straight forward. I’d say it’s worth a five minute try if you have a flash drive somewhere.
I couldn’t imagine being limited to IE6 anymore – we’ve stopped supporting it at our studio.

do you think connecting that to an internal network may set off red flags and or hit a firewall that could crash the network in any way?
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me lose faith in humanity...
If they’re that shrewd, they may block it, but seeing as how he can get onto the site in the first place, they’re probably not that concerned with things like that. Definitely not something that would take the entire network down though.
Although I like the way you think!

I was only asking because I have the same problem at work, but I don’t think I’m game to give it a shot… I heard of a guy hooking his laptop up to our internal ethernet and causing a major network down time. he was fired.

Clouston calls this a playoff game.
I like our chances if this is an Ottawa playoff game.
4-2 Leafs.
Also, friend of PPP LeafBoy will be attending, as well as a bevy of Leafs fans from the office.
In other news, the local media here have their panties in a bunch that there are Leafs fans attending and still cheering for the Leafs instead of their bland, lifeless and irrelevant franchise.
It’s always good for a laugh so here’s a link to Bruce Firestone telling Ottawa hockey fans they’re crazy to cheer for the Leafs. Slightly dated though, penned in 2004.

Ottawa Senators
Not S*nators. Not Snes.
You know why? They aren’t our rivals. To treat the Senators like our rivals, to heap disproportionate hatred on them, is to flatter them. They haven’t earned it.
I always remember pre-2004 people saying the Sox-Yanks wasn’t really a rivalry because in a rivalry both teams need to occasionally win. So here’s the thing: the Ottawa Senators have never beaten us in a playoff series. They even lost the one regular season game that determined playoff seeding between us to close out the 2003/2004 season (I can’t remember which). To call them a rival is to give them WAY too much credit.
The Flyers are a rival. The Habs are a rival. Going back further, the Wings are a rival. The Senators are like the pathetic younger kid that just moved into the neighbourhood and desperately wants to be accepted by the older kids. Do you heap scorn on that younger kid? No, you pat them on their head and then kick their ass if they get uppity. I know their fans can be annoying, but so are little kids sometimes.
So here’s my plea. Don’t dignify the Senators by treating them like a rival. If they beat us, big deal—we know they’ll choke in the playoffs like the always do, whether it’s against us or someone else.
If they ever win a Cup or beat us in the post-season, then they’ve earned our hate. But not until then.
I just like calling them the Snes or whatever because it’s funny, it pisses their fans off and I hate them and their fans just as much as the Habbies (and the Flyers and Wings).
Fuck the Snes.
leaf fan stuck in ottawa, a localized black hole that will suck everything in that area to oblivion.
I don’t mind annoying them but don’t think they’re worthy of our hate. Contempt? Scorn? Derision? Sure. But hate has to be earned. They haven’t earned anything. And nothing would annoy them more than treating them with relative indifference. “Oh, we’re playing you again? Sorry, I totally forgot. I was too focussed on the upcoming Habs game on HNIC. Oh really, that means you won’t get to watch your team on Saturday night? What a bummer.”

I can get behind that.

calling them the Snes
is disrespectful to the SNES.
That said, they are the only team I legitimately hate in the league. it doesn’t ebb and flow with whatever the current quality of the clubs is. it is always burning. ceaselessly….
I have nothing interesting to say.

Being about 1300ish miles away from this, I don't know for sure...
But I get the feeling that the hate is much more geographically-based, rather than team-based. Most of the digs (with the exclusion of Alfie) seem to be based on how awful of a city Ottawa is, both location and people, rather than anything much about the team.
I could be way off on this – just an outsider-of-the-area perspective.
Prefers pugnacity to truculence.
Disdain
would be a better word. And for me it isn’t so much about the team (excepting some of the players) it is the Media(big surprise) and most of the fans.
I have lived in Ottawa – I think the hatred from their end is two fold:
first – because Toronto(the city) is so big and gets so much attention, they feel the need to try and tear everything down relating to it – especially true for the sports fans.
Second – They (although they will deny it) feel so utterly insignificant against the history, culture and fanbase of the Leafs that they somehow feel the need to try and deride everything that revolves around the Leafs and marginalize it as much as possible. They are hugely insecure both of their city and the massive disparity that exists between support for the Sens compared to support for the Leafs.
It’s sad, really. We dislike them because they are the flea biting our ass and they dislike us because we consider them insignificant. It pretty much balloons from there.
Its possible they just have CN Tower envy and they are transferring.

Out of idle curiosity plan….if you lived in Ottawa during the playoff rivalry days….did Ottawa have any cool songs for the Maple Leafs during playoffs way back when.
I know we had “The Ottawa Song” which I love, but did they ever have anything cool?
they did have something – I think it was a Green Day song they bastardized
I don’t remember it tho – it was not very well done.

Ovie shouldn’t have been suspended because the NHL’s policy is ridiculous.
They should suspend the play, not the result. Ovie’s “shove” definitely warranted the 5….not sure it warranted 2 games.
he got 2 games because he is a repeat offender
