Oh hey buddy! What's that? You've got 27 goals in 59 games on the 29th placed team in the league? And you've found two guys you like playing with? Oh, well, that's nice. Keep it up kid.

wilson coaching: falls for the devils bait

how many games over the years have the devils (smartly) applied the strategy of getting into a power play contest with the leafs…
knowing how lousy the leafs specialty teams always are, the devils bait the leafs into taking penalties and sure enough—-wilson obliges—-putting orr out to fight clarkson…leading to 2 penalties, and change of momentum

somewhere lamariello is laughing…

It was a penalty but I doubt it was part of Lamoriello’s master plan to draw that call.

Prove it

I think it would be interesting to see if the Devils get more PPs than the Leafs enough to justify thinking that it could be their only game plan.

I always thought their basic game plan was to play defensively responsible hockey, capitalize on turnovers and score off the rushes those turnovers generate!

Damn…you think some team would have realized that all they needed to do to defeat them was not take penalties.

by Theodles on Mar 18, 2010 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

That would be a terrible gameplan given how bad the Devils’ PP has been as of late. I think they’ll stick to slicing through the Leafs D on various shifts at even strength. Though I feel bad that Luke Schenn couldn’t do anything against Leblond along the boards.

But it seems like the D pairings change every damn day.

fairly heavily since the Olympic Break.

No consistent pairings … I’m not sure if it’s by design or just a result of all the PP and PK play.

According to

Dobber Hockey…

Beauchemin and Phaneuf have played 35% of the ES shifts…
Kaberle and Gunnarsson have played another 25% or so
Schenn and Fingerby have played the remainder.
