"If I had to give my nomination for someone to give the C" to I think leading up to the future here--maybe next season--he would be a great candidate for that," Exelby said. "I think he's that type of guy. He really likes to make sure everybody's up and ready to go every day, not just games but practices. And like I said he's not afraid to have his voice heard and to call someone out if he thinks they're not towing their weight and I think that's exactly what you need for especially a young team."

Agree 100%. Dion should be the next Captain. And not just ’cause Ulmer said so!

The last three men to be
Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs
were guys who are currently on, or are going to be on, banners at the Arena. I dont think we should give the C to anyone unless we think that person can have their name next to Apps, Kennedy, Gilmour etc. Have three ’A’s if you dont have that guy.
Thats why I didnt think it should be Beauch or Komi (or Kaberle).
If Dion is the leader of this team, and if we think he can become an honoured player, then we should give him the C, but not otherwise.
Pesonally, I think he can, so I dont mind them giving dion the C.
Why stop at captain? Dion for Prime Minister!

From TSN
“I’m pretty sure he wakes up screaming at six in the morning,” rookie forward Viktor Stalberg said after Monday’s practice. “I don’t know how he does it. I’m still in a half coma until I take a shower in the morning. I’m pretty sure he wakes up screaming at people.”
“If you find a spot where he doesn’t talk that much let me know because I might want to go there sometime,”

Everything I hear about Phaneuf suggests to me that he is something like Stifler.

"He definitely has a certain swagger about him," Mitchell added, "even the clothes he wears and stuff like that. He’s got his style and he’s got his swagger and I’m sure it does rub off on guys. It’s a confidence that he walks around with and that’s going to rub off on a lot of the young guys."
Yup

Burke calls Phaneuf “Captain Material” as well

I think we all know the answer to this: Burke for Captain.

The one surprising thing about this article…..was that they bothered to ask Exelby his opinion on who should be Captain next year. :)
Hard to nominate a Leaf Captain when he is playing for an AHL team

Yeah, don’t care much about what Xlb thinks since he is history soon enough. But he had to endure Kovalchuk as captain in Atlanta right? Don’t think that would have been much fun as in I don’t think Kovalchuk was a good captain there. He would know what he is talking about re this topic I suppose.
Anyway, I think Phaneuf is our next captain. He deserves it as long as he doesn’t think he is Robert Orr and goes on those really ‘productive’ rushes we have seen him do. Get over the line and dump the puck in Dion.
Stay within yourself. Play your game, knock the freakin’ shit out of people with awesome open ice hits, intimidate the shit outta the opposition and rally the hell outta our guys all the time as he has been doing.
The kids sure seem to respect him. Love it. Do a job for us Dion whether you are named captain or not!
