Let that sink in. I know I know, it's older than old news. It just feels so good, it's like waking up from a nightmare only to realize that hey I didn't really just jump off that cliff running away from the army of geese theatening to kill the children I don't have (on another note don't fall asleep high).
So our beloved boys in blue have been mathematically eliminated, that got me to thinkin, and not all my thinkins were bad thinkins. You know who else we don't have, Matt Stajan, Alexei Ponikarovski, Jamalalala Mayers, or Jason Blake (but most of all Vesa). For years these names have been the bane of our very existence as fans. Regardless of how much we gave up to acquire them and how long we've had to sit through their mediocre (at best) efforts on the ice, they are GONE NOW! Rejoice.
Soon enough this season will end, it has been a disappointing one but let us not forget that one year ago we were staring into the face of a season with Luke Schenn as our only savior, John FUCKING Mitchell was a not so close second. We have now witnessed the coming of some new players who are significant upgrades on what we had last year (some, hope inspiringly young). This offseason will continue the exodus of the trash (sorry X-club 7) and the additions of more warriors (hello Colby Armstrong).
This post doesn't have any statistical analysis or real point to it. I'm trying to reinforce the fact that we are so much better off right now than we were one year ago, that is what is known as progress. Sure it would have been hard to be worse off, but it could have happened (Raycroft sucked, and then we got Toskala). I'm not saying we're going to win it all next year, but it's going to be better.
