The Top 13 surprises in the new Don Cherry movie

Last night I finally got to watching Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story. If you happened to catch the two-part CBC television movie, you know the film’s director, Cherry’s son Tim, did an excellent job chronically the legendary hockey commentator’s life. However, I must admit there were quite a few surprises:

Number 13… Don’s played by Meryl Streep

Number 12… Hits on Ron Maclean’s wife every Christmas.

Number 11… Buys most of his suits off the rack at Zellers.

Number 10… No one’s purchased a Rock’em Sock’em video since 2003.

Number 9… Prefers lacrosse.

Number 8… On his popular talk show “Don Cherry’s Grapevine,” once got so drunk he shit himself on-air.

Number 7… Beloved bull terrier “Blue” was hanged by Michael Vick.

Number 6… Played Dr. George Dunbar in CBC’s hit show Danger Bay.

Number 5… “Coach’s Corner” was also his nickname for the place he picked up whores in the ’50s.

Number 4… Despite pleas from his friend Bobby Orr, bought a Honda for the gas mileage.

Number 3… Because of his legendary dislike for Swedes, actually sided with Tiger over Elin.

Number 2… Film claims he wrote the entire roster for Canada’s 2010 Olympic men’s hockey team on a cocktail napkin before handing it to Steve Yzerman.

Number 1… Once shouted “Dougie” during passionate love-making session with his late wife Rose.
