I had a good time reading over the comments at Matchsticks and Gasoline. They’re like Leafs fans, but not yet resigned with less audible sighing.

Funny they seem to view the Toskala acquisition as an UPGRADE. One mans treasure….

Toskala is a treasure like the aztec gold in Pirates of the Caribbean. once a GM trades for him every signing turns to ash in his hands

They imported the entire losing core of the Leafs into the Flames dressing room. Somehow I doubt this will end well.

possible lines tonight?
Kulemin (23) – Bozak (23) – Kessel (22)
Caputi (21) – Hanson (23) – Lundmark (29)
Stalberg (24) – Wallin (29) – Sjostrom (26)
Mitchell (25) – Primeau (33) – Orr (28)
Average age of our forward group: 25.5
wow.
yeah, now that is a youth movement. One forward over 30 and two 29 year olds that wont play for the leafs past this season. throw in a 25 year old grabbo instead of wallin and it gets even younger.
Now we just need some of these kiddos to break out and become legitimate NHL scorers….please?

The Leafs have dressed a couple players I have never heard about tonight, in fact I can’t find anything on these guys at all, apparently they were signed to minimum dollar contracts moments before the game. And now they are lining them up against the Gomez, Gionta line to start the game. Maybe Wilson knows something we dont because this may get ugly right off the draw
And here’s the puck drop OH BABY, the new guys are totally ignoring the puck and are now beating the Montreal forwards with their sticks

I hate sportsnet, and let me tell you all why…
All of a sudden, Toskala becomes (in their eyes) a solid and experienced back-up goalie. How on earth can they say that when Kipper gets a night off, he wont have to worry about coming in and bailing out Toskala (as he apparently did for Curtis McElhinney)? Really? Do they know the kind of “experience” the Vesa had in Toronto? He is not reliable, and is statistically one of the worse goalies in recent memory… This was the case when he was with the leafs, but NOW he is somehow better? Can anyone even remember when he last played? (not that we want to). Bottom line, I hate sportsnet.
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me lose faith in humanity...
he is also in the western conference now….huzzah!

I hate Calgary radio.
On Mike Richards’ morning show (Fan 960):
Darren f’ing Dreger(!): “Toskala was run out of Toronto, some say unfairly. He had injury problems”
Scott Taylor (Winnipeg): “The Ponikarovsky trade might be the worst trade in history”
What the fuck is wrong with the media? Send an underachieving, overpaid PoS away from Toronto and all of a sudden he’s a decent player? Has anyone checked the standings this year? I suppose it’s not Toskala, Stajan, White, Hagman, Poni or Mayers’ fault that they’re in second last place?
Does Scott Taylor not see any merit in dealing a 29 year old with an EXPIRING CONTRACT for a prospect and a draft pick? Some days I just want to claw my ears off.

How about trading a 26 yr old D-man for a (more expensive) 34 yr old one, and throwing in a draft pick. Then giving away Dustin Boyd for nothing. I would have loved to see Burke send a pick this way for him.

I feel a new kin-ship with the Flames fans… I feel like their team is right where ours was before we imploded (2-3 years ago)… still holding onto meek hope of post-season success, furious at management, on pace for a 9th place finish… If Iginla for some reason walks as a UFA in a few years, the situation will almost be identical…

It sure sounds that’s exactly what the Flames are:
"I was disappointed in our execution. I was disappointed in our intelligence. I thought the emotional level, as the game went on, dropped off. That was disappointing, too. I’m not pleased with how we played tonight. How can we be? It’s unacceptable — every game is such a big game for us — to play with a lack of intensity, to play like there isn’t even a system in place." – Brent Sutter

I'm not sure if some one has answered this or not yet
But can some one explain what happens with the conditional draft pick for Pogge? I know it was a 6th that could move up to a 3rd (based on playing time, etc.), but that’s not really in Anaheim’s control anymore now that they traded him.
I’m confused.
Leafs Nation: A drinking team with a hockey problem.
im sure the pick still applies if Pogge plays X number of games, but I think its pretty much impossible at this standpoint for the necessities to be met (i think it was something like having to play 20 games this year)
