Leafs 2 S*ns 1 (SO): Everyone join me in mocking Ottawa
I missed the whole game but I feel like I had a positive influence on the outcome. While at dinner I checked Twitter and saw we were losing 1-0. I refreshed twitter and apparently Phil Kessel scored a dandy. I arrived home in time for the shootout... enough said.
Jonas Gustavsson stopped 22/23 which is a .957 on the night. He stoned Spezza in the shootout and is an inspiration to men. Ottawa's scored one goal in the past 125 minutes against the Leafs. Those are numbers I can get behind.
Join me in insulting Canada's capital.

During the last 4 games of Canada’s gold medal run, I found a lucky position to sit in on the sofa. I didn’t change my seating position once while those 4 must-win games were on. When the gold medal game was on, I wouldn’t even move during commercials or intermissions. By the time Crosby scored, I was cramped up like a gimp – but we won the gold! And my wife thinks I’m a little bit strange.
It is very uncomfortable seating position, but that gold medal was so very worth it.
Tonight’s game was the first Leafs game I was able to watch in full since the Olympic break, so I tried the position out again. Sure enough, Leafs win.
Schenn looked really composed with the puck.
He settled the game down nicely and made some good passes, minus the one halfway through the third that was right up the middle. Our forward wound up with it, so it was OK in the end, but still. He also continues to struggle to get the puck out of our zone on the PK.
I can’t believe he didn’t break a few ribs when he got slammed into the boards.
If God didn't want me to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?

Stempniak with an assist tonight.
2 points in 2 games. He could wind up being a steal for Phoenix, but it’s not like he was doing much over here.

Everything in Phoenix
counts as stealth, because nobody sees it anyway. So he doesn’t have to disappear as often.
(I feel I should make some kind of ritual offering to Odin now. And possibly Thor).
I watched the game at a pub in Kingston. Might as well have been QVC on the TV, nobody paid any attention. Even the frat boys in the Sens jerseys were mute.

Tonight’s game is more of what I expected from this team: not a lot of shots against, not a lot of goals against, not a lot of goals for.

Agreed. With this threadbare group of forwards, the only shot they have at winning is to keep the opposition of the board.

I was. Shield Sr. wasn’t there, he is still in the Burlington. My brother drove up with a buddy for the weekend though, there was 8 of us. Awesome game to be at, with the shootout and all, and the Sens ‘fans’ were incredibly bitter after the game. Some pretty intense situations in the hallways, outside, and on the bus.

Drive by post, but I think that if the Leafs could keep games simple like tonight, the final 15 or so games will be fascinating to watch. I know the sens were sick tonight or some lameness tonight but the buds did alright!

Woo!
I have a question, did Wallin actually play better than normal tonight (his penalty killing was off the hook) or does he maybe just look better in person?
Phaneuf Phever, an upgrade in skill and alliteration!
I think he’s finding his feet – his PK and defensive play in general have been quite solid. I’m almost wondering if there’s a way we can sign him for minimum, have him play bottom line (or even a shutdown 3rd line), and keep another one of our young guys safe in the A one more season.
I had to make sure to post this in the morning and not last night, as most would likely attribute it to the rum.

What I love about the Ottawa fans and media
Well, nothing really except their delicious sense of self-delusion and irony.
Some examples:
On the morning show, John Rodenburg saying that Calgary has no idea what they are doing, getting older and slower in a season in which they acquired Andy Sutton, Alexei Kovalev, Matt Cullen and in which their core rambles toward thirtysomething.
Ottawa fans screaming that we’re doomed, REALLY doomed because we have no first round picks. Of course, Kessel/Bozak being young, talented and = to a first round pick completely escapes them. When asked what a first round pick is? Tayor Hall Tyler Seguin!!! When asked again, they have the vacant start of a government employee told he won’t get his union-appointed 15 minute coffee break. FIRST ROUND PICKS ARE YOUNG PROSPECTS, YOU PAPERWORK-ENCUMBERED PHARISEE!!!!
The best, though, is hearing emailers and callers with such pro-Senator names as “Leafs Suck” calling in and complaining because…wait for it, we cheer louder than they do.
At least Alfie had the good sense to stay home and spare his manager the indiginity of hearing his captain get booed in his own rink.
Yeah, we suck gibbon balls right now, but at least we have a future. Ottawa? Their future is hoping the geritatric Murray finally figures out that getting older in a league focused on youth doesn’t work and their aging core can win a round, let alone two with shaky goaltending, bad defense and an aging forward group.
Let them have their illusory Cup run, their brain and mouth stuttering GM and their Toronto-envious owner.
We’ve got a future, we’ve got hope and we’ve got the youngest team in the League.
Look up Ottawa, you will see not only the CN Tower but the Blue and White boot about to kick you ass back out of that pathetic, hicksville cornfield you call Kanata.
Go Leafs Go.

No matter how well Kessel plays, when Boston gets up to make their first and second round picks courtesy of the Leafs. It will hurt.
I suppose if Kessel starts scoring 3 goals a game I wont complain.
Nah.
They won’t know what they get for a good 3-4 years, given development and other factors. We wouldn’t have got a 30 goal scorer in 2010-2011 with that pick, and Burke can still move Kabs for a high pick as well.
We’re fine.

As a former “……paperwork-encumbered pharisee” out in (Gene) Tunney’s Pasture with the Dept. of Supply and Services this post is just way beyond funny BesterThanYesterday. Oh, the bureaubrats in Ottawa – such exciting people to work with. Used to wear my Dead Kennedy’s “In God We Trust Inc.” t-shirt to work all the time. That shirt occasionally got more than a vacant stare from more than one government employee.
At least it was about a three to one population ratio of girls to guys back when I was there. That was very cool.
Does Ottawa still have that awful awful sleep inducing “alt-rock” radio station that I can’t remember the name of now? Even their CFNY-The Edge attempt at being like Toronto failed on a grand scale as in put me to sleep while trying to study for exams for three days straight way way back when. Slurping coffee like water and trying to stay awake with a little tuneage and zzzzzzzzzzzz. Snorefest, borefest of a radio station. Hope they got a lot better for people like Stucky and El Monstruo. “……a localized black hole that will suck everything in that area to oblivion.” God I love that sig Stucky. Kudos to you.

The alt-rock station here is branded as Live 88.5, the New Alternative. I don’t know if that’s the one you used to listen to (and hate). I don’t mind it, personally… it certainly could be a lot worse.
As for the sig, thanks… but the credit goes to PLAYOFFS!!1, he used that phrase in a comment of his somewhere along the way, and I “borrowed” it. I thought it was pretty great.
