Introducing the PPP Podcast
Everyone likes to hear themselves talk. PPP, mf37 and I are no exceptions so we're proud to bring to you the first edition of the PPP Podcast.
We recorded the podcast from about 10PM on Sunday to 1AM on Sunday and cut most of it out, our future efforts will be much snappier but there's a lot of good stuff in here we think. Give us your comments and your concerns. Give us on air topics or tell us a funny story.
Click here to download the Podcast (right click, save as please).
We talk about the Leafs, UFAs, how screwed the Leafs are, (deleted scene), and more! Listen! Listen now!

Yes of course mister editor never listened to it, but here it is in text form.
24:50ish in:
“Guillaime Latendresse, who has 21 goals in 34 games with Minnesota as a UFA”
“As many as Kessel”
“Don’t say things like that, it will freak people out”

Actually
Guillaume Latendresse makes $800K not $500K and he’s an RFA but still.

Yup. Pretty much. There was one segment where I didn’t talk for nearly 8 minutes straight. Good editing cut that down to about 7.5

That was the most difficult part of the podcast – not stepping on each other’s lines and, conversely, not letting any gaps drag on. Gave me a whole new level of respect for folks who do radio.

Like the intro, love the elevator music “Girl From Ipanema” segues.
My buddy Bojangles. and I started out in our industry at the same time, working for two different employers. Bojangles is a good guy, but the slowest moving, most uh, “chill-axed” is the term I think, fellow you’re ever likely to meet. Bojangles kept getting sent out by his employer to essentially do some quasi-detective work to try and help shut down some dudes selling knock off merchandise on Yonge St. I teased him incessantly about having his own T.V. show, Bojangles P.I. and insisted that the opening montage of this show would feature an elevator music version of Girl from Ipanema. Every chase sequence too would feature the bad guys going like hell, driving fast and running through crowds, leaping fences, etc. with up-tempo guitar rock in the background. The smash cuts to Bojangles in “pursuit” would show him just striding along the street at a leisurely walk, smiling, to Girl from Ipanema.
I wish the grant had come through from the government to make a pilot. That show would’ve been hilarious.

I’m still not comfortable with it being “Kemmy” instead of “Chemmy”.
I may have to over-rule you guys on this one.

OK – listened to the whole thing. (Yes, it is a slow day – why do you ask?)
Did a double-take at the end when I got mentioned by, um, pseudonym. Had to determine whether “coherent” was supposed to be the exception or the norm….
Good job, all!
mf37 – get a better phone already….
Leaf, the universe and everything.
“coherent” as in well researched and not a half ass post about nothing like the rest of our stuff.

Huh. That’s pretty much exactly the opposite of how I imagined mf37’s voice. I also like college hoops.
Great stuff, guys. I liked the content of the discussion. I loved the “subtle” cuts into Girl from Ipanema. And the laugh track.
Too close for missiles, I'm switching to dead raccoons.
Chemmy promised me he’d use his audio editing tools to make me sound exactly like a young Tom Sellick.
I’m also not sure what the opposite of my voice would be…
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
like a young Tom Sellick.
I hadn’t made that connection, but now that you mention it, it’s impossible not to notice.
I generally read your posts as if they’re being dictated by Don LaFontaine.

Wow, Don LaFontaine. Hmm…In a world where every comment matters..Nope, sadly I sound more like b-list actor Josh Hamilton.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
Liked the podcast, though something needs to be done to make mf37’s voice as loud as Chemmy’s and PPP’s – I had to really crank the sound up to hear mf37 at all, which meant that several of my co-workers were occasionally hearing Chemmy’s bon mots like it or not.
One point of contention: I believe that the nuclear orange cheese that accompanies certain snack items in the upper bowl at the ACC was spoken of derisively. This has hurt my feelings and will likely outrage a large portion of the nation, at least that proportion of same that is of the “right-thinking” variety. The nuclear orange cheese is artificial, unhealthy, and is only distantly related to any actual “cheese” products as we commonly understand this term to indicate; I love the stuff!

On the point of nuclear cheez we will have to disagree.
While my budget puts me in the ACC purples, my taste in food stuffs is very much platinum lounge.
As for sound quality, I will buy a new headset so that I’m further up in the mix in the next podcast. I fully expect the comments next week will urge me to go back to my previous sonically impaired state.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
Ha ha, I doubt very much that anyone would not want to hear what you have to say. Hmm, checking double negatives there; just to be sure, the point I’m trying to make is that you make a valuable contribution to the discussion (wrong opinion about nuclear cheez notwithstanding :-) )
As for the sound, I’m not so sure it’s necessarily about the equipment you’re using on your end. Puckurgently (@archluke) would know more about this than I do, but it struck me while listening that the podcast needed some compression to moderate the differences between the very loud sounds and the very quiet ones – all of which means that the listener can adjust his or her equipment to a comfortable volume and not worry about significant variations in the signal level.
Don’t know what audio production software you (and/or Chemmy?) are using to produce the final audio file, but most packages have some sort of compression/dynamic range plug in that you can use to process a recorded signal to achieve the desired results. I know that audacity (open source, free), Cubase (proprietary, Windows) and GarageBand (proprietary, Mac) all have features that allow you to achieve this.

Hmmm
Brainwave…you and archluke do audio related ‘stuff’, to use the industry lingo, right?
Any chance of getting some help going forward?

I only do the audio stuff I do as a hobby – I know a little bit about it from my days playing in a band and trying to record songs, etc. – archluke is a pro, as I understand it.
I don’t mind pitching in a little where I can, if you’d like….but I’m Rickard Wallin to archluke’s Phil Kessel, for sure.
