Amazingly Cox writes another good article. This time about former Caps 50 goal scorer Bobby Carpenter and his work with the Leafs kiddos

One of the things I really like about Burke is the way he’s using the Leafs resources to beef up scouting and development. They’ve got the 2nd highest number of scouts listed on their official team page. It’s nice to see that Burke is also putting money into some non-traditional areas like this. I don’t know if it was ever posted or discussed here but the Leafs are also apparently very into new advanced statistical analysis.

If they can’t buy the best players they might as well buy the best support staff. I’m glad they’re putting their money to something constructive.

Ya I’m glad we have a big scouting staff, new Mastercard arena, lots of money in our fitness programs, etc.

If we can’t put more money into our players because of the cap, may as well put any money towards developing and improving those players in every other way possible.

I think so. It’s good to have a guy working with the kids while they aren’t completely in our control.

I thought it was awesome

But I was shocked at who wrote it. Cox? Seriously?

I'm thinking that when the Leafs win the Cup, I'll lose my drinking problem.

Some Leafs fans around here are starting to warm up to him around here, i’ve noticed.

he keeps doing quality reporting and writing, we have no choice but to give the man props
so far its only been about 6 months or so of decent Cox, I’m not holding my breath to see if he keeps it up though

I have a sneaking suspicion it will be some kind of cycle with him. He goes on an upswing, writes a bunch of nice, well thought-out articles about the Leafs. He goes on a downswing, classic Cox crap comes out.

I think he’s got a direct line to the Leafs. This is the third or fourth article like this that only he writes.

That’s a good call. Perhaps Burke or Nonis has put on a charm offensive.

The frustrating thing about Cox is that (unlike many others) it has always been clear he had the ability to write well. Too often, however, he got lazy and churned out crap-by-numbers or got bogged down in internecine MLSE politics.

Good to see him continuing to make the effort. Maybe it’s a contract year.

I like to think that Burke grabbed him by the throat and said “stop writing mindless tripe or I’ll feed you to Mike Komisarek”

I like it a lot, this kind of work with prospects should help their development. I didn’t necessarily picture Bob Carpenter as a guy who would do that but I’m glad he’s on our side.
