Me Too
I literally sighed with relief when I read that on TSN.

This shows that either:
- Nonis truly believes that Toronto can get better and he wants to be a part of it when it happens; or
- They offered him a shitload of money.
My hope is that’s it’s both.

It could also mean he didn’t get the job in Tampa.

I guess I was going off the report that he reported “pulled himself out of the running”.
Either way I’m happy he’s sticking around.

I’m told both.

Since this is a Dreger scoop, it probably came from Nonis himself.
Good news.

Goodbye Fletcher or Poulin?
Ostensibly, Poulin was brought in because it was an eventuality that Nonis would be hired on as top dog by some other team. I’ve never heard of him doing anything, so you’d think we could stand to lose him. (Although, a little extra help to Burke can’t be a bad thing, I suppose.) What’s more is that Fletcher has been a part of bringing in some new guys like Aulie and Sjostrom, so I’m inclined to forgive him for Finger. On the other hand, the man is what, 80?

Im sure Burke hangs on to everyone he finds the least bit useful, another hockey minded voice is never a bad thing, at the very least it gives him another perspective

He spent a fair bit of the season hanging around the ACC. I dunno if that’s because he was working for the Leafs or because he wandered away from his nursing home.

Nonis must be the one to sign him out of the home.
Because I sat not 20 feet away from them at Ricoh for the Marlies’ season closer.

I don’t know that Poulin has to leave right away. He’s just had one year as the head of player development. He might get itchy when he’s had at least some semblance of success. Then again, Nieuwendyk left quickly.

Nieuwendyk’s got a huge opportunity for someone with relatively little executive experience in the NHL. He got made an offer he couldn’t refuse and I wish him all the best.
Nonis is a much more established name. There’s likely a far smaller range of jobs that he’d take unreservedly. Until he gets offered one, he seems to be happy where he is. Which is good.
Poulin’s probably open to offers, but whether he gets made one is another question entirely.

In Serbian it’s Shtrumfi just to diversify this post. I also didn’t know what people were talking about when they said smurfs when I first moved to Canada.

Hahah, nice!
I had the same experience, albeit within my own country.

Truth is..
In Toronto, if he finishes what he believes he’s started, he’d go down in history as a hockey legend, where in Tampa, he’d be a nobody regardless of how many championships he may win. Having said that, thank god he is staying with the leafs, they need his cap skills. I originally thought that Burke was become president, and Nonis GM. Maybe it can still happen, but what a sigh of relief!
True, but the Tampa job wouldn’t be without it’s perks. Not only would it be a promotion (that he probably deserves), that team has a retarded amount of talent and a competent GM and coach should be able to turn them into contenders again.
Also, living in Florida wouldn’t be so bad, even if it is hockey obscurity.
There’s also the chance that Nonis LIKES being out of the spotlight. Burke allows him to do business without saying a word to the media.

Yes, I’m certain that living in a place where you can be legally shot and killed if someone thinks you’re a threat to them would be wonderful. Plus, millions of people go there to visit…………..Disneyland.
