Happy housewife
When I was a teenager, the idea of being a housewife terrified me. Cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, staying at home... I wanted nothing to do with any of it. Fastforward ten years and, well, I love it. Last night I got home, took the dog for a walk, picked up some groceries, made dinner, did the dishes, baked some bran muffins and drank some wine. It was great.

It’s a thing where all the teams get together and choose young players to build their teams around.

I think it’s an even trade. Kaberle, for his faults, still puts up his customary 40 or so points. Horton averages around 55 points. And he’s missed about 40 games in the last two seasons.

It more has to do that both teams are shopping the players, and both teams have needs that the other player provides. Puck-moving D for Florida, “legit” 1st line C for Leafs, both similar salaries, both “underachieved” or at least no longer have as much of a need. (many would argue Kaberle never underachieved).
The only thing I could see is that Florida might get a better deal than Kaberle, i.e. a 1st round pick towards their rebuild. I could see Horton getting a better return than just Kaberle, but a straight swap isn’t a rediculous notion.

Has this actually been reported? Dallas was well under the cap this past season. They could resign all of their important young players, fill our the roster, and be more than 10 million under the cap for next year.
Having a lower amount of future liability makes the team easier to sell. I don’t think they’ve ever spent to the cap anyway.
Not even the Toronto Maple Leafs could kill my optimism
Tyler Ennis: Freed from Portland!
Ok, but Richards is only signed through next year. Assuming it takes some months to get an ownership transfer done, the team would be close to the cap floor around the time the new ownership was fully in place.
I didn’t mean Richards in particular, I’d actually think it would be the longer term contracts they’d be looking to get rid of,personally, but who am i to argue with the 100,000 “Experts” on the internet who think they’re trading Richards?

No it doesn't
One of the reasons why Horton struggled to gain any consistency was because he was uncomfortable as a centre.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
Horton has never scored 70 points. He’s more a 50-60 point scorer right now.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
I know he’s never reached 70 points, but he’s scored 60+ twice and was on pace for 70+ if he played a full 82 games this year.
Perhaps
But the reason why he’s never scored 70 points is the injuries he’s been picking up in increasing frequency over the few seasons.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
he’s played in at least 65 games every year except his rookie season. he had a broken leg this year and only missed 15 games
That still doesn’t dispute the fact that he hasn’t played a full season in two seasons.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
so, he’s not Marian Gaborik. Lots of players don’t play the full season every year. He missed 15 games this year and 17 the year before. Both were different injuries. It’s not like he’s Eric Daze.
But as clrkaitken pointed out below, Horton didn’t manage to put up big point totals for a supposed 1st line forward due precisely to the injuries. Whether or not he’s Gaborik isn’t helping because Horton didn’t accrue the stats.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
Also
Gaborik, despite his injuries, is still well over a PPG player, something Horton isn’t.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
i’m not comparing their stats. i’m comparing their injury history. Gaborik has a history of groin issues. Horton’s injuries are not chronic.
They have been for two straight seasons. Whether freak injury or not, he’s still billed as a power forward. Therefore, he’s going to pick up his nicks and knacks, more so than other scoring forwards. If Horton was a pure sniper like Kessel, I would be less concerned.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
Some guys are just injury prone. Sure it’s different injuries but if it’s a foot, an arm, a broken leg, a gunshot wound whatever: the point stands that he’s hurt a lot.
You can not afford to have injury prone players on your roster in a hard cap league. If your best players don’t play 75 games a year-ish you’re boned.

Sit on the bench behind Rask, or outplay Leighton and Boucher to be the starter for the Stanley Cup Finalist?
Resident Capologist
consensus is that philly needs more out of this deal, a pick, probably boston’s second.
Who wants to hear a funny ass joke?
no, that is WAY too much

if they get Thomas, there’s no Leighton.

I feel bad for Thomas, still totally a legit #1, and riding the pine hard.
I hope Boston DOES trade him just so he can get a starting job. Plus then if Rask goes down with injury next year for some reason, maybe Phil can net a goal!

The closer we get to draft day, the more i fear that no one actually wants Kaberle.

8 teams are seriously interested, the teams who have called are in the double digits.
They want Kaberle, I just worry that Burke is asking for too much.

Ya, Dreger said no one has offered anything yet, they will wait til Draft day

I think he meant no one has tabled real tangible offers. Probably just tire kicking, shooting the shit type “interest from 8 teams”

No, that’s the double digit teams who are tire kicking.
Dreger speicifically said that 8 teams are “serious”.
I also don’t think any have put together a complete package yet, given Kaberle’s NTC is still in full effect.

Ya that’s sort of what I meant by tire kicking (realize now it didn’t come across well).
Somewhere inbetween asking what kind of players on their roster he’s expecting in return and putting together a formal proposal is what I understand to be “serious” interest.

I guarentee one of those teams was Buffalo, and i’d like to think the initial conversation was this:
Darcy: I’d like to get Kaberle for Drew Stafford, straight up.
Burke: But Drew Stafford sucks!
Darcy: So did Dominic Moore! slam
Not even the Toronto Maple Leafs could kill my optimism
Tyler Ennis: Freed from Portland!
Dominic “2nd round pick” Moore. That is his nickname forever.

if only took him four tries, but he was finally almost worth the pick that was traded for him!

he’s an upgrade on their #5 and 6 defensemen
although why you’d trade Carter for a #5 defenseman, I don’t know

I can’t believe you are arguing this

All I’m saying is that you have no reason to believe that Horton has chronic injury issues, at least no more than a lot of other players.
That’s fine, but what I’m saying is that unless Horton plays a full season, or at least close to it, he’s not going to score 60+ points. I like Horton, despite my debate here, but I’m not going to ignore he has flaws to his game that Florida is well aware of, too.

It means that we should be concerned that Kessel has never played 82 games in the regular season.

62 points when he played full seasons.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
And i said he may score 60 points, but that’s not a guarantee anymore because he hasn’t played a full season in two years.
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
Not sure it’s reaching. The years Horton was a 60 pt player he also played almost the entire season. That’s not something he has been able to do lately.
Compared to Kessel who has been a 30 goal scorer in two seasons where he missed decent sized chunks.

Like reading thoughts confined to 140 characters? I'm on Twitter too.
How so? Is it not a fact Horton hasn’t played a full season in two years? Is it not a fact he has scored 30 goals only one season in his career? Is it not a fact he has suffered a broken finger, and two significant leg injuries in two seasons?
Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell
that's OK
I’m fine with him being secondary scoring.

Fun Fact
The NHL.com shop put the new Leafs jerseys up today. It costs $10 more than it used to to letter them now.
I’m not even kidding. The lettering goes from 3 layer, 2 colours, to 1 layer, 1 colour, and its MORE EXPENSIVE. Gotta love supply and demand, I guess.
Is it really a surprise? You didn’t really expect them to sell for 1 penny less did you?
