GM Brian Burke said team has qualifying offers out to all its RFA's [Nikolai] Kulemin, [John] Mitchell and [Christian] Hanson.
Kevin McGran answers a question we've all been asking. So the Maple Leafs will, at the very least, receive something in return for their trio of RFAs. No word on whether Dave Nonis mailed or faxed the qualifying offers.

Surprised other teams are interested in Kulemin considering how much money he wants. Kinda expected teams to be interested in Hanson though I think they see that he is gonna improve and be a very solid player.
no one really knows how much he wants, no concrete numbers have been revealed and its all speculation

considering how much money he wants
he’s supposedly asking aroud the 3MM mark, which is about right for a young 2nd liner wanting his second contract (see: versteeg, byfuglien, o’sullivan, backes, etc.)
by Death_By_Leafs on Jun 23, 2010 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Versteeg got what he got because Tallon fucked up and didn’t qualify him in time, had to pay him extra $$ as a UFA

Don’t Oilers fans consider O’Sullivan a dreadful contract?
by The '67 Sound on Jun 23, 2010 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions
O’sullivan is a dreadful player, so any contract he had would be on par

I’m pretty sure all the contracts he listed are pretty dreadful

Not Backes! $2.5M for a (1-time) 30 goal scorer? Yes please.
Too bad he only has 1 year left of that.

i didnt say they were good or bad contracts
but at the time of their signing, 22-24 year old RFAs expect to be in the 2.6m-3.2m range.
its was just a defence of kulemin’s “wild” demands; they are pretty much par for players at his level.
hopefully he outperforms whatever his dollars are, but dont think we’re getting hosed if he signs at 2.7m or 2.8m
by Death_By_Leafs on Jun 24, 2010 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions
his level shouldn’t be dictated by his age as much as his performance.

Draft Shmaft
On the draft front, the French language “Sports Juniors” is reporting that the Leafs have shown the most interest of about 9 clubs which have expressed interest in Victoriaville Tigers Brandon Hynes.

He was third overall in the 2008 Q draft, which is obviously very high. He is apparently only 5’9 and has fair scoring numbers …41-34-75 and +15 in 68 games. Has low playoff numbers for some reason although a + Wears number 9 …
by Raja Pakkomielle on Jun 23, 2010 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions
his DOB is one day before the cut off for the draft. he could be a steal. will never fall to the Leafs
Although ...
Apparently his draft ranking went from 200th mid-season to 122nd at the end of the season …

john Mitchell is like those big ass bags of socks you can get, like 20 pairs for 10 bucks or whatever
sure they are nothing special, some people even hate wearing em
but everyone needs socks and at 50 cents each they are fantastic value even if they fall apart after 20 wears

Band-aide remedies again?
I guess it was only a matter of time when Burke finally said something that I’ve heard before many times in these dark times as a Leafs fan…
"Look, I traded picks to get Phil Kessel," he said. "I want to get better now."
We all seen this movie and let me be the first to say, (SPOILER ALERT) the way this movie ends sucks balls.
"There's been four different Cup winners the last four years, and I got one of them (Anaheim) and it was a fighting team. We're playing it that way regardless." - B. Burke, Toronto Maple Leafs GM
who is a band aid? Mitchell and Hanson are perfectly suitable young 3-4 liners who work good in all zones and have excellent work ethic and Kulemin is developing into a fantastic 2 way at least 2nd liner with 25 goal potential
it’s not like he traded youth for vets, in fact this is the exact opposite, seems like the Leafs are retaining their youth and seeing what they have in them before letting them walk
