Loose Lips
At least four amateur players came out in the media this week as saying that the Leafs had shown particular interest in them.
Number 9 ranked NA goaltender Cam Lanigan who plays for the Edmonton Oil Kings, is one who, compellingly; also impressed the Alberta-based Oilers and Flames according to the Calgary Herald.
And there is Kingston Frontenacs Corey Durocher who is ranked 163 among NA skaters. According to the Kingston Whig Standard: "Durocher, who scored 15 goals in his rookie season for the Frontenacs before adding two more in the playoffs, has talked to some NHL clubs and filled in forms for others. The Toronto Maple Leafs have talked twice to Durocher, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound left winger who turned 18 only three weeks ago."
The Sports Juniors report on the Leafs interest in Brandon Hynes has been well documented as well. And according to The Western Star Brandon Hynes thinks that he would look good in a Leafs jersey. Said Hynes: “If it’s the Leafs, I think I’d be a little more happy than any other place but, at the end of the day, this is not the time to be picking and choosing where you want to play,” he said. “It’s the National Hockey League, so I’ll take whatever comes.”
Add Kevin Sundher, who ranked 67th among North American skaters to the list of Leaf wannabes. The Chilliwak Bruin playmaking center is quoted in the Calgary Herald as saying with regard to his favorite team: "My fingers are crossed".
Of course this could all amount to nothing. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see if after the weekend any or all of these players find themselves in the Leafs stable.

Loose Lips

He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
