Toronto Maple Leafs Draft Petter Granberg 116th Overall

The Leafs have drafted Swedish defender Petter Granberg from the Swedish Jr. league with the 116th pick. Granberg was listed as the #21 European prospect by CSB before the draft. He's 6'2 and 200lbs. Here are some profiles of him: Hockey's Future, NHL.com and Elite Prospects:

A big and strong stay-at-home defenseman. Granberg plays a very solid defensive game and rarely gets caught out of position. He plays a simple and safe game with the puck. Does not shy away from the rough stuff, but could probably play even more physical. Hockey sense is decent, but Granberg will never be a high-scoring defenseman.

Toronto's Pick

So…here we go again with the Leafs…For their 116th pick they choose ANOTHER european over a good Canadian boy. Granberg is 6’2" and 200lbs and described as a big “stay at home” defensman who plays his position… and he’s from Sweden. Then Montreal picks 117th and they choose Morgan Ellis. He is 6’1" 197lbs and described as a "stay at home " defenseman and just named captain of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Quebec major junior league. What is wrong with this picture? I thought the leaf’s were re-building and making changes? Looks like same old mistakes to me!!!

birth place of the players means sweet fuck all outside of international competition.
I just want the leafs to win
this “Canadian is automatically better” stuff is bullshit and frankly i’m sick of it

Yea, it’s not like the Leafs just made a Canadian player their captain or anything….

Welcome

Thanks for joining. Not sure if you watched hockey last year (because you seem to forget all of the Canadian kids the Leafs have added) but they Leafs picked ONLY North Americans.

The Leafs picked the best players available to them without prejudice. That’s what we’re looking for.

Before people start saying ‘just what we need, another defenceman’ – this guy won’t be playing for the Leafs for at LEAST 3 years(if ever)

Another ticket and hope the kid develops.

Even if we can’t use him when he develops into a possible NHLer, we can trade him to someone who can use him.. this goes for pretty much all our picks, I guess.

If nothing else, he’s got the size.
