What’s with all the 1 year contracts?

For arbitration, one a player elects to go to it, the team gets to decide if they want it to a for a 1 or 2 year deal. Most opt for the 1 year deal.

Also, the recent trend has been for middle of the road to below elite level RFA to sign for short term deals so that they can sooner become UFAs and receive what they hope will be a bigger contract from the team of their choosing.

I've always wanted to be a PPP Princess. You see kids, you can be anything you want to be; so long as Jay Leno doesn't also want to be that.

Alternatively, Sutter wants to be able to say that he got Stajan and White for less money than he would have paid Phaneuf (Hagman v. Sjostrom be damned).

They are expected to send Kotalik down to the ahl or he might go the the khl. Yet with Sutter he might give Kotalik a 10 year extension with a no movement clause.
