Want to Win NHL11 for Free?
Click the image to register so we can get an idea of how many people we'll have enter.
Some of you read the Pensblog. Last week they were approached by a company called Rivalspot who runs video game tournaments. As an introductory offer Rivalspot offered up a free to enter tournament where the winner walks away with a brand new copy of NHL 11.
No catch, no nonsense. The basic format is a 16 person tournament: win and move on and at the end of the tournament the winner takes home a copy of NHL 11.
What I Need You Guys to Do:
- Click the above image to register even though we don't have a tournament yet. That will let me know if we need to have more than one tournament.
- Post in the comments what system you want to play on. I know we have a ton of Xbox 360 users but I don't know how many people have NHL 10 on the PS3. If there's interest there will be a PS3 tournament.
- Post when would be good for you to play. Not "this Wednesday at 7pm" be more flexible: something like "weeknights" or "weekend afternoons", etc.
- Feel free to give us feedback if you hate promotions and getting free copies of new video games.
The Pensbloggers and crew had an awesome time with their tournament and there's a good chance that as more blogs sign up for this there will be blog vs blog showdowns. The Pensblog have already challenged us to see who will have NHL 10 supremacy... this could be fun.

Woo!
PS3, best times are weeknights after 8 or hungover Sundays!
Love promotions, keep ’em coming!

I’m in and weeknights are generally best for me, though weekend days might be okay too sometimes.
Also I’ve got a 360 since I’m not some chump.

I was asking the guys if they planned on getting this set up for Modern Warfare because I would love to have a record of taking a big dump on you.

Question: is this a Leafs people against Pens people thing or is it leafs vs leafs with leafs winner facing the winner of the pens thing?
Right now this is an “anybody who signs up” thing but will probably be mostly Leafs fans.
In the future we’ll be challenging other websites.

NHL 10 is under $20 used.

It’s tough to justify dropping $20 when 11 is about 3 weeks away. I wish my roommate hadn’t scratch my NHL 10 disk…
sounds like fun, good luck all!

NHL 10 for $20?
You sure its only $20 used? Where do you buy from?

I can play it on either system and weeknights and Sundays work best for me but I’m flexible on the time.
Do you have a preference for systems?

Not really, whichever you guys need more people for is fine with me. Is this with the EASHL guy or regular 1 v 1 where you control the entire team?
I think you can probably choose the same team.

No.. .there’s a team i think in the del that has an ace of spades on their jersey. Everyone plays them and you have to play the motorhead song over voice the entire game.

Will the rosters be updated to match the offseason moves or will it be as far as the NHL servers have updated them?
Probably whatever EA has on the servers.

Guess I should say weeknights or weekends are equally sketchy for me. :) once the date is decided, i can plan better for it. The wife will probably let me have a few hours to compete if i means I don’t have to buy NHL 11. :)

I’ll register when I get to my laptop, but I’d be in on ps3. I’m out east from tomorrow until the 22nd, so if it’s after, I’m good weeknights or weekends

Unless of course you email me when you have to play him and I just bombard him with voice messages of me making fart noises into my microphone.
When I read the nickname Testicula, the first thing that popped into my head was a vampiristic scrotum that can only be killed with a silver cross driven through the vas deferens.
I hate shootouts
Can the rules be updated or are they set in stone by the tournament guidelines?
Tick Tock, Tomas. Tick Tock.

The shootout is horseshit in NHL 10 (pardon my swearing). If you are a goalie, you can just sit on the goal line and almost never give up a goal. Which is completely unrealistic, because we all know that sitting on the goal line is a bad idea for a goalie in a breakaway situation.

Maybe someone should’ve told that to D.S. Toskala.

I’m pretty sure Allaire spent day and night trying to fix Toskala. I’m pretty sure Burke traded him away so Allaire wouldn’t go insane and/or quit.

In.
I can-opened my NHL10 last month because apparently you can’t pick up your Xbox while the game is loaded or some shit. Figured I could hold off until 11 came out, but I’ll bum 10 off someone. Weeknights usually work fine for me but I can probably get free for whenever it’s held. 360.
Registered, 360, weeknights/weekends until the 20th, then anytime during the week until the 5th, and then weeknights.
Holy specific.

We’re going to set up a 16 person tournament on the 360 for Tuesday night starting around 8pm I think. Any large objections?
We need more PS3 interest for a PS3 tournament.

Ok, I’m about to add details for how to enter the tournament to the post but do the following.
1. Go to EASports.com and register an account if you haven’t already. Follow the instructions there to link your 360/PSN account with your EA account.
2. To see if your account is setup properly replace the XXXs with your gamertag:
http://www.easports.com/player-hub/ps3/xxx

To tie your PSN or XBL account to your EA account:
1. Go to EASports.com
2. In the top right corner register an account
3. After registering, login
4. Scroll down until you see “Customize my Sports World”. Click “My Profile”.
5. Your profile page will show some weird 3D avatar on the left, below it you’ll see “My Personas” click “add persona”.
6. At this page type in your gamertag
7. Finally your Gamertag and EA account are linked.
8. In NHL10 go to My Online NHL10 > Online Settings > EA Account Settings. Put in your EA account info.
