I’m with clrkaitken, centre ice, first row, upper bowl is the best seat in the house.

It really depends on the game. The one the PPPers went to last season was against the Habs and I believe it might have been the last home game. It was like $100 a ticket.

Agree.
Saw the Leafs beat the Panthers last year from directly over the red line in the standing room, and it was a great view. The only downside is that you’re not supposed to have alcohol, but I brought up beer anyway and no one said anything to me.

I talked to a bunch of NHL scouts at an CHL game at Maple Leaf Gardens (likely in the mid-90s) and asked where they liked sit. They said corner seats, half-way up.
This taught me to never underestimate the power of suggestion as I’ve liked to sit in the corner seats about half-way up ever since.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
That’s where I generally get my seats as well. Half way up in the offensive zone corner that looks at the benches. It’s got the smallest hidden area of the ice compared to any other area.

My season tickets are behind the Bruins attack goal, halfway up the balcony, right behind the handicap section. I like it because I can afford it and I can see the whole ice.

Platinum seats were great for me
I was in section 110, row 8 and although that section is right next to the corner, the seats were awesome, just above the level of the top of the glass but still really close to the action. I didn’t see anyone order sushi. Burkie’s Doghouse was right behind our section so my dad and I indulged… ooooooh baby are Burkie’s Dogs good! I have to agree with you about the lack of scoring by the Leafs. With 10 minutes left in the third I was desperately hoping (almost got to the point of turning religous and praying) for even a lone Leafs goal.

platinums are a cool experience once in a blue moon (especially if your company has the the accompanying suite with free drink and food), and it’s kind of neat to be that close to the action, but it’s certainly not the best way to watch the game. my 2nd or 3rd leaf game ever was in platinums (courtesy of the bank i worked for at the time). i sat directly behind the visitor penalty box, chirping boston forwards was the highlight of the night. too bad we lost 3-1.
centre ice reds (or even upper golds, 15-20 rows up) offer a great view, and there aren’t too many deadspots. still not worth the price though ($150-$210) more than once a year (or less even).
my one friend has centre ice purples. they’re 10 rows from the top, so they’re up there, but the view is still great, and at $55 you can’t go wrong.
a guy at work has access to first row blues, directly behind the net the leafs shoot at twice. For $100 it’s a great way to watch the game, watching the play develop in the opposite zone and then progress towards you is totally different than the TV view, but still allows you to see all the action. i’m hoping to get my hands on a few of those this year.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
Can I just say that now Canucks tickets seem to be more expensive than Leafs tickets and it really bothers me? You can’t even find a Canucks ticket for $55 anymore.

by Karina on Sep 29, 2010 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions
leafs tix aren’t as outrageous vs other teams as people think. i did a comparison last year of leafs tix vs sens and i think habs. pricing was very similar in all areas, the ACC just has a huge premium on their mid lower-bowl seats (so the golds basically). those are $205, where an equivalent seat in Kanata was like $140 or $150. but if you’re comparing upper bowl seats, they’re basically the same price. i’m surprised you can’t get seats at that price in vancouver.
the biggest problem with the $55 purples is that they’re never available. you can go online and find ticket brokers selling season tix (w/ seat license) for platinums, golds and reds no problem. NO ONE sells their purple or greens though, they’re just too good a deal.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
How many does the ACC hold?
Part of the problem here is that the Canucks’ arena doesn’t even hold 19,000 people, which is retarded.

ACC’s 20,000 give or take.
Resident Capologist
Follow me on Twitter @clrkaitken. Or don't. Whatever.
I thought it was lower, Wikipedia says 18,800 for hockey. I know the Bell Centre is like 21,000 which is what we should have.
That’s the problem. Leafs moved into the ACC which wasn’t purpose built for them. The ACC if designed for hockey should have been around 22,000 easy.
Pension Plan Puppets*

i’m thinking of the geographic location though, and i’m not sure how that would have been accomplished in the footprint they have, it’s pretty jammed already (b/w bay, york, front and lakeshore/gardiner).
but yes, it would have been great to have an additional 3000 seats.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
Are they really only $55 a ticket? Don’t prices vary based on the “game type” (i.e. who they’re playing). My brother and I were at the same game as the PPPers last year but were sitting in about 10 rows back in the 300s, in the corner (really good seats). My mom bought them for us off a guy with season ticks at her work and paid $95 (which was the price on the tickets).
they haven’t started the variable pricing yet, that’s next year I believe.
yep, purples are $55 (price on ticket; actual cost to season ticket holders is $50). $95 is the price for blues/ greens (first 10 rows of upper bowl).
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
Oh okay, gotcha. 6 of the last 7 games I’ve been to have been in Ottawa, and they do the variable pricing (where I’m always paying the most because I’m watching the Leafs). You could get Sens/Panthers tickets for $10 through the University.
the sabres have been doing that pricing for a while now. ‘platinum’ games were basically all leaf games + habs saturday games, ‘gold games’ were habs + teams like pitt and washington, etc. my buddy’s an oilers fan which was classified as a ‘bronze’ game or whatever the lowest one is (it was a tuesday night too)…. he got seats 5 rows from the ice for like $60.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
I think it’s a good idea in places like Ottawa where they have high demand for Leafs, Habs games and then have a hard time selling tickets for games against a lot of other teams. I don’t understand why they would introduce this in TO because they sell out no matter what.
i’m for it if they reduce the price of shitty tuesday games vs the panthers, or even do that while raising the saturday premium games (so net-net they’re even). but i suspect all they’re going to do is keep prices as they are now for all games, then the premium games are going to have the price jacked.
Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.
The sabres invented a platinum tier for leaf games because they were going for close to that price on the resale market and the Sabres wanted some of that money. (this is pure speculation)
On the Mike Weber bandwagon.
Everything wrong with the Sabres is Drew Stafford's fault.
It was cool during the Bruins rookie games to sit close to the ice (3 rows back for the 2nd game). It’s awesome feeling like only a cheap pane of glass is protecting you from the chaos on the ice, and being able to appropriately taunt Kirill Kabanov was cool, but anything past the opposing blue line was tough to make out.
Hmmm. Everyone overslept. Is Byfuglien the new Wellwood? Because my lunch is missing.

Hanson is bigger, tougher, better with the puck, probably has more heart, has had a better camp. Mitchell only wins in experience and speed.
I was about to say that Mitchell is a shootout whiz, but he ain’t never broken a water bottle like Hanson did last week.

You only need 1 move, 2 if you’re really fancy. See Ales Kotalik (best shootout percentage in NHL, its all he’s good at, has only two main moves), adrian aucoin (Literally does the exact same thing every time, even shooting at the same spot).

Numbers game. Of everyone fighting for those top 9 spots (excluding Kadri), I think he’s the only one who’s still waiver-eligible.
I will say this though: the guy has shown that he can score at the AHL level. Starting Kadri on a line with Caputi and Zigomanis (13 A in 7 GP for the Marlies last year) would set Kadri up very nicely to torch the AHL as a rookie.

I still have no idea why they qualified O’Brien at 1.6. He’s terrible, they had already traded for Ballard (and could have brought Mitchell back if they hadn’t got Hamhuis) and they have all sorts of cap issues with their D. Just silly.
He’s not terrible. He just should be played on t he bottom pair and they played him in the top 4 too much.
They tried to bring Mitchell back anyways but he wanted a 2 year contract.

Depends on if Alberts returns to how he looked in Carolina. He looked absolutely horrible for Vancouver last year. There’s potential there, but it all depends on if he fits with them or not.
SOB is a decent 3rd pair defensemen, probably reasonable for the cap hit. That whole defensive situation in Vancouver is a huge mess though.
Oh, four! I mean five! I mean fire! Now available in lite version!
He’s looked good in the preseason, for sure.
Agree on it being a mess. They currently have Bieksa on the top pairing.

I’m not that worried. Every team every year ends up with a few guys hurt at the start, and then that continues all year round. This is hockey, not baseball. No Tommmy-John surgeries here.

SO i was reading the puck daddy live chat, and then... WTF
Whoa, the Panthers acquired Michael Nylander on loan for Rochester of the AHL? Link (Leahy)
This raises many questions, like “He still exists?” and “Why would the panthers pay (most) of his 3 million dollar salary?” “Couldn’t they use that money on someone that doesn’t suck?”
On the Mike Weber bandwagon.
Everything wrong with the Sabres is Drew Stafford's fault.
I think he’s actually on loan to the Panther’s AHL team, the tweet seems misleading.

well now I read the story you linked to and am even more confused
how could a player be “leant” from one NHL team to another?

Only works at the AHL level me thinks. That’s probably what was happening when the Ducks prospects played for the Marlies.

Dual affiliation works slightly differently than a loan, but not by too much, if i remember correctly.

I don’t the the Marlies were affiliated with the Ducks, just that the Ducks didn’t have an AHL affiliate they were loaning their players out to various teams.

Yeah, I probably should have reworded it but Cntl+V is just so easy.
It is correct, though very poorly worded.
If he were playing in the NHL the Panthers would have to acquire him from the caps (I imagine the asking price is “free”) and pay all of his salary instead of just most.

I don’t understand how the Panthers are paying his salary either? It seems to me that players get loaned to AHL teams all the time (ie. the Marlies having Ducks’ players last year) but the parent team doesn’t pay?

as there wouldn’t be any player sharing agreement in place between the two teams, they would have to negotiate compensation. Apparently GMGM is a good negotiator.

AHHHH
heh, Leonosis must be happy.

that initial report is wrong
Real_ESPNLeBrun
FYI, Caps still on hook for Nylanders’ $3M salary even though he’s been loaned to Rochester. Panthers will pay him $100,000 AHL salary
