Upcoming UFAs. A quick look

I did a quick look at next years UFAs.   I organized them by their current salary and said if I was interested in them, putting commentary in where I felt it was necessary

Y

Who am I kidding?

Connolly, Tim "

F

BUF

29

$4,500,000

YC

In addition to an off season he is HUGELY injury prone.  Probably not right for this team but beggars can't be choosers and he has more talent than most of our forwards

Arnott, Jason "

F

NJD

36

$4,500,000

YC

I am undecided.  If we could get him cheap I may be interested in a veteran forward on our team who can pot some goals.  But the bottom line is he has been slowing down and probably makes more sense in a team with a  top 9 set up playing 3rd line minutes bringing experience

Handzus, Michal "

F

LAK

33

$4,000,000

YC

If he'll take a huge cut on the 4 million, he could be an ideal #3 C.  Realisticlaly though I don't want to see the Leafs going to free agency to buy 3rd liners

Ryder, Michael "

F

BOS

Ponikarovsky, Alexei "

Y

Probably woulnd't be interested in coming here

Cole, Erik "

F

CAR

32

$2,900,000

Maybe

Honestly don't know enough about the guy.  But from the little I know it seems like he more has chemistry with Staal than skill himself

Langenbrunner, Jamie "

$2,800,000

N

Knuble, Mike "

F

I'd gamble on him...  Hopefully could get him for cheaper with the blood clots (but at the same time hopefully it doesn't destroy another season).  I feel for the guy...

*All data from capgeek.com

Just to put them all together these are the players I would be interested in signing at the beginning of the summer (ie not players I would try to wait till August like MacA for):

  • Brad Richards (The max I would probably want would be 40 mil/6 year)
  • Selanne (who am I kidding)
  • Hejduk (I don't think we have a shot at him)
  • Fleischmann (I would take the one year gamble on him)
  • Brooks Laichs (still don't want to pay more than low 3s for him)
  • Nikolai Zherdev
  • Jussi Jokinen
  • Ville Leino

Cheers,
