Four Games for Eager
That means he'll get to watch 4.5 games in a row of the Thrashers from the pressbox. Heyoooo.

I’m surprised in one way, but there is no parity in these suspensions that are handed out," Eager said following Saturday’s practice. "The last two incidents I’ve seen, they knocked a guy out with no glove on and get no fine. The [Milan] Lucic incident [against Thrashers defenseman Freddy Meyer] he suckers a guy that’s now even looking with no glove on he gets fined $2,500. Then Jody Shelley does the same thing to a guy who is watching and he gets two games. I get four somehow for hitting a guy with my glove on, that is looking right in my face. We are looking eye to eye. I guess [NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell] wanted a quiet weekend. He didn’t want the Toronto media calling him all weekend. He did what he had to do.
"It is what it is. It’s four games. I will deal with it and move on.
Eager speaks. Self-awareness is not a strong point

Gotta admit, my initial reaction was that the suspension was a bit long as well considering punishment for similar incidents. I do think he is a repeat offender though so maybe that was a consideration.
Also, Fuck Ben Eager.

Previous poor decisions are no excuse to make more bad decisions.

I just meant precedent that has been set by previous “sucker punch” punishments for Lucic and Shelley. But Eager has been suspended before so perhaps his previous stupid behaviour gets him a couple extra games. Either way not a big deal, I doubt anybody will miss him.

‘I shouldn’t get suspended because they didn’t’ is not a great defence.

Tie Domi got suspended 8 games for his infamous sucker punch on Ulf Samuelsson in 1995. Sounds like the NHL is getting more lenient, not less.
Matt Johnson got 12 for sucker punching Jeff Beukeboom in 1998.
Precedent is for more games.

A better lawyer would have mentioned that Lucic is Greg Campbell’s teammate, thus mounting a Mark Fuhrman-based defense.

Speaking as a hockey player punching someone with your glove still on is much worse, per “the code”, than punching him with your glove off. Eager knows this.

The punishments for doing something like that have escalated. That makes sense. If he’s so aware of all the punishments, then he would know that the next one is going to be longer.

full confession
I kinda sorta wanted Eager when the Hawks were trading off folks over the summer, and hoped he was part of the Versteeg deal initially. I don’t know why, I just thought he’d make a great big body grinder to play along with Orr (this is pre-What-Can-Brown-Do-for-You days, so it’s not all that crazy…)
At any rate. I feel much shame and a little dirty for the whole idea, and it feels god to get it off my chest.
Three “hail Wendel”’s, right?

What the aitch is wrong with Brown anyways? Is he still out from that shot block?
I'm tired of the Leafs half-assing it like a chick with one butt cheek.

On a slightly related note
Any word on possible suspension for Tom Kostopolous? That hit he put on Brad Stuart was brutal…

he waived his right to a hearing so essentially Campbell can give him what ever suspension he feels like
