Is It Okay To Own A Sabres Jersey...

If it's a Doug Gilmour jersey and autographed?

I came across such an artifact and it is ridiculously priced (on the good side of ridiculous) but... Sabres. I need a ruling. Does this violate the "one team" idea? The unspoken "don't buy anything to support a divisional rival" idea? The general "fuck the Sabres and everything associated with them" clause that comes with being a Leafs fan?

All good questions, but... it's Dougie Gilmour and i live out in Saskatchewan where there's next to no chance to run into him so he can autograph my Leafs jersey.

I await the ruling of this esteemed council of fans.

I have no idea why you’d want it. Gilmour’s Saber’s jersey is one of the ugly buffalo head ones (not Buffaslug bad, but still). Beyond that, he was only there one year so I don’t know how it could be worth anything anyway. And if I had to say there was an acceptable team beyond the Leafs for him, it’d probably be the Flames where he won a Stanley Cup.

i did not know.

i will say my son has 2 Sabres jerseys (and both the ugly ones, a white Buffalo head and a blue Buffaslug)

I remember I was at my buddies place for a party he was having, we were all drinking copious amounts of beer and stopped the party all together so we could turn on the game and watch Dougies return…

I was in Montreal with a friend. We walked around for an hour trying to find a place that was airing the Leafs game, even turning down a bar that had a cheap flat entry rate then open bar. We finally found one. Walked in. Glanced up at the TV and saw the hit that ended Gilmour’s game/season/career.

However …..some jerseys and Players I will never EVER wear.. Like Wayne Gretzky in NY Rangers or Edmonton.

Messier as well with both teams.

i live in buffalo

the city is awful, the people are awful, (the food’s pretty good though! which probably accounts for the morbid obesity of most residents), and the sabres will always disappoint…. if you love gilmour like i do, give him proper respect by placing his name on the back of a toronto jersey! :-D

Didn’t end up getting it. The price went up too high for what I was willing to pay for a Sabres jersey.
For the record, though, I didn’t mind the buffalo head jereseys as much as everyone here seems to have.

It’s an autographed Gilmour jersey. I live across the river from Buffalo. I HATE the city of Buffalo. I HATE the Sabres – not as much as I hate the Habs or Sens, but I’m a soccer fan too, and learned the proper degree of hatred for rivals there.

But it’s an autographed Gilmour jersey. Go for it.
