Super Shot Search
I've been working on this app for a while. It's still in beta stages, but you can search any player or team's shots and goals for location for the last 3 seasons.

This is amazing, and my mind is already filling up with ideas on how to use this data. Huge rec from me.

Just an idea
but if you could also post the location x/y data on a chart or something on the same page that would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
or
in a linkable file for dl… that’d work also without chewing up the display.

Rockin’.
Since you asked for suggestions…how about expanding from just doing maps of shots taken by a given player, to also having the option for a map of the team’s shots for or against with that player on or off the ice?
I want to be able to see whether there are forwards who consistently drive their team’s shot distribution and whether there are defensemen who consistently drive their opponents’ shot distribution.

I strongly endorse this suggestion.

Awad's
Delta stat gets after this basically… although it’s not graphical.

Random suggestion
Can you show a player with the rest of the players on his team (ideally forwards vs forwards and d vs d)’s shots in a different colour. That way you have a bit of a comparison.

This is absolutely fantastic stuff. I may never leave my mom’s basement ever again.

i think
burtch’s suggestion gets at this, but it might be great to have the shots broken up into a few zones (you could decide them somewhat arbitrarily) and then have a summary of the % of shots/goals from each of these zones.
but really, i hate to suggest anything cuase it’s already awesome times awesome. it’s awesome squared.
Move along. Nothing to see here...

Sweet idea

If ninjagreg can develop an app that can determine that, I think all 30 NHL teams will be trying to hire him.

Am I reading this right?
So am I reading these charts correctly, because it appears that Phil Kessel almost NEVER scores from the right-side of the ice? And certainly not from more than 10 feet out?
Can this be true?
