Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

I've been working on this app for a while. It's still in beta stages, but you can search any player or team's shots and goals for location for the last 3 seasons.

This is amazing, and my mind is already filling up with ideas on how to use this data. Huge rec from me.

Really cool. Great work!

Just an idea

but if you could also post the location x/y data on a chart or something on the same page that would be awesome.

or

in a linkable file for dl… that’d work also without chewing up the display.

I have a degree in Computer Engineering from U of T. I have been working professionally for about 5 years now. Would you like a resume? ;)

I’m worried I released this too soon, as it’s not quite ready. Oh well. I’ll get some updates maybe after work, but probably not till Wednesday.

I strongly endorse this suggestion.

Awad's

Delta stat gets after this basically… although it’s not graphical.

I don’t have the information of when a person is on or off the ice. Though I would like to get it at some point.

I may make another account to rec this again

Random suggestion

Can you show a player with the rest of the players on his team (ideally forwards vs forwards and d vs d)’s shots in a different colour. That way you have a bit of a comparison.

i think

burtch’s suggestion gets at this, but it might be great to have the shots broken up into a few zones (you could decide them somewhat arbitrarily) and then have a summary of the % of shots/goals from each of these zones.

but really, i hate to suggest anything cuase it’s already awesome times awesome. it’s awesome squared.

Move along. Nothing to see here...

It would be neat to have arbitrary bucket sizes that aggregate the shots/goals in particular locations.

any word on if reimer is back tomorrow?

If ninjagreg can develop an app that can determine that, I think all 30 NHL teams will be trying to hire him.

Or in other words, please try to post that comment in the FTB (or today in the FTB part to).

And welcome Mick.

Am I reading this right?

So am I reading these charts correctly, because it appears that Phil Kessel almost NEVER scores from the right-side of the ice? And certainly not from more than 10 feet out?

Can this be true?

R.I.P. The playoff hopes of Montreal Canadiens fans for 2011-12.

by not norm ullman on Nov 2, 2011 12:24 AM EDT reply actions

That appears to be true for 10-11, but no discernible left/right pattern exists for 09-10. I’d suspect you’d need years of data before you could draw any reasonable and usable conclusions.

I would love if this app auto-selected Toronto. And perhaps gave a warning message if you select Ottawa or Montreal. Only kidding – very well done looking forward to the updated versions in the future.

Hmm, it would be easy to add a cookie that remembered your last selections…
