Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Two teams singing the Blues

Who: Toronto Maple Leafs (9-5-1; 19 points; 2nd in East) at St. Louis Blues (7-7-0; 14 points; 12th in West)

What: Game #16 of the Regular Season

Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri

When: 8:00pm - TSN

Why: Because we need more proof that Jonas Gustavsson isn't an NHL goalie.

Star-divide

Toronto comes in off of two crushing losses, having scored only one goal and allowing 12 over that span.  James Reimer remains out with a concussion, so it's either Jonas Gustvasson or Ben Scrivens in net (I use the term loosely).  On the other hand, the Blues recently hired Ken Hitchcock as their new coach, so the St. Louis players are likely depressed and struggling to find the will to live.  Also, Brian Elliott may be in goal (Phil Kessel says YYYYEEEAAAAHHHHH).

Should be a good one.

Time for the captain to play like one...

Phaneuf has to take some blame for the 2 recent losses…as a captain he needs to take charge and set an example…don’t give me some stat like he has 10 points in last 10 games…i mean show some leadership and make others accountable….

by phunky on Nov 10, 2011 4:15 PM EST reply actions

I’m all for this, but aside from being a ppg defender (which is ridiculous by the way) and delivering open ice hits on a regular basis how do you suggest he shows leadership and holds his teammates accountable? Honest question.

my suggestion...

speak to the players who aren’t giving it their best effort…a loss is attributed to the team, not individuals, but every individual on the team is responsible. As a captain, he needs to play with fire and intensity that needs to be cascaded to the team, not kept to himself. Have each player be accountable for their performance…it starts with the captain and then make sure the others are on the same page…

This way, you increase the odds of Ovechkin laughing at a Sens player in their own barn.

by Spezzal Teams Playa on Nov 10, 2011 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

lol your solution is for me to vote for 4 sens now? I will compromise. Whatever Senator ends Gionta’s career I’ll vote for them.

Raycroft! I like the move. Falls inline with the push for youth and is a solution for the future. Trading Rask was unfortunate, but with Pogge and Raycroft only being 26, I think the TO goaltending future is a bright one. - Some guy from 2006

I don’t want to promote alcoholism.

Changed.

I used to love the Leafs... I still do... but I used to, too.

by Chuck Diesel on Nov 10, 2011 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

The only problem is, I still have that bottle of scotch, and the Leafs are playing tonight.

by Self Destructive Zones on Nov 10, 2011 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

and Reimer isn’t in net. Commence drinking (I have).

Lets hope it’s a celebratory drink then.

you should have just rolled with it, would have made you seem like a boss

by Goosemonster on Nov 10, 2011 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

It’s the best kind of Leafs drinking. The worst kind? Well, let’s just forget the end of the 2000s….

I really wish I could watch the game, Leafs > Financial Accounting for Business Decisions….

the J.D/M.B.A idea was a mistake

by Chi-town leafs on Nov 10, 2011 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

I’m struggling enough with just the JD part of that equation

by Self Destructive Zones on Nov 10, 2011 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

… me too… though I suppose average grades in 2 advanced degrees are better than average grades in 1

by Chi-town leafs on Nov 10, 2011 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

I’d say having a JD/MBA is probably going to do more good than harm in the long run. At least that’s the basic premise I’m going with.

by Self Destructive Zones on Nov 10, 2011 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I’m going into corporate/tax law… so I was going to need it eventually anyway

So if we lose this game do we call up Rynnas Owuya?

by scott tubbesing on Nov 10, 2011 6:15 PM EST reply actions

What's the point?

Rookie goalies need to face shots as a backup for a few seasons before you know where they’re at.

So why instadump the third string goalie if the second string is bad, and go for the 5th string

by BubbaLou on Nov 10, 2011 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

I’m only joking but illustrating how bad our goaltending situation is. At this point I’d be ectactic if Reimer played a game in November.

by scott tubbesing on Nov 10, 2011 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

Well, it’s bad. But we knew this going in.

I just hope we can grab some points here and there so Reimer isn’t left with another Hail Mary Comeback season to go through.

by BubbaLou on Nov 10, 2011 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

Im pretty sure they’re both 3rd string goalies. I wouldnt even say Gustavsson is at a backup level.

Being a Leafs fan makes me bipolar.

by BlindSight on Nov 10, 2011 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

The point is you don’t go five deep on the hierarchy looking for someone better, cause that’s illogical.

by BubbaLou on Nov 10, 2011 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

I believe the Blues busted us from our slump last year… and Reimer played the next 7 games after that when we went on that run #optimism
