Leafs All Injured, Tim Connolly Inexplicably Healthy

TORONTO, CANADA - OCTOBER 29: Tim Connolly #12 of the Toronto Maple Leafs skates during NHL game action against the Pittsburgh Penguins October 29, 2011 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Photo by Brad White/Getty Images)

Quick injury update:

The Leafs await MRI results on Mikhail Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur. In their place Tim Connolly returns to the lineup with Joey Crabb per Jonas Siegel.

Matt Frattin and Colton Orr are also not practicing.

James Reimer's "concussion like symptoms" that definitely aren't a concussion have worsened: he's no longer working out on ice or off ice meaning his return is probably a long way off.

On the Marlies front: Matt Lashoff is out six months with a knee injury, Keith Aulie isn't 100% and Joe Colborne was cleared for contact today.

by Alspicer on Nov 16, 2011 12:44 PM EST up reply actions

you were talking about icing colton orr against the Canadians to exact revenge, the leafs don’t play the Habs until Jauary 21st
icing colton orr at any point over any player who is better at hockey than him (read everyone in the Leafs system) makes the team worse and will cost them more games than it will win them
So now I ask you, what the hell point are you trying to make?

Resident Internet Tough Guy

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 16, 2011 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

IF we are out of the playoff picture by the time we play that game, it will be in no small part thanks to us missing our starting goaltender.

Given the fact that Reimer kept playing through the period the team felt no need to stand up for him during that game. Or maybe they thought Shanahan would at least have a look at the hit.

Should we be in a position where we have no realistic expectations of making the postseason then I would expect the team to address the incident during the January game. If only to make it clear that touching our goaltenders is off limits. Colton Orr is one of the players best “skilled” to address this.

by Alspicer on Nov 16, 2011 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

Grigorenko tops ISS ranking for 2012 draft
There’s a promising Russian-born talent at the top of International Scouting Services’ November draft ranking – and it’s not Nail Yakupov.

The independent scouting report has Quebec Remparts winger Mikhail Grigorenko as its No. 1 prospect, knocking the highly-touted Sarnia Sting forward to second on its Top 30 list.

“(Grigorenko’s) ability to amplify the skill sets of those around him is what sets him apart from the rest of the pack,” explains ISS Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “And while the incredible offensive talents of Yakupov are nothing to take lightly, Grigorenko has shown better as of late and this isn’t the first time.”

They just “graduated” 2 underrated forwards in Johansen and Perrault and Carlson and Alzner on the back end. With Backstrom and Ovi locked in longer term and Neuvirth/Holtby coming through on the back end they should be good for a long time.

I am really high on Johansen. I think he gets overlooked because ofhow awesome that roster is.

As a 20 year old he had a 0.19 GPG and 0.39 PPG in the regular season and 0.67 PPG in the playoffs. This year, at 21, he is rolling at 0.4 GPG and 0.73 PPG (that is slightly better than Grabbo’s scoring last year at 25).

Nicholls and Ross have 28 and 27 points respectively in 22 games, good for 12th and 14th in scoring in the WHL.

Glad you asked!

Junior careers, both 5 years, reg season + playoffs

Brad Marchand:

Goals/Game: 0.41
Points/Game: 1.05
PIM/Game: 1.34

Brad Ross

Goals/Game: 0.34
Points/Game: 0.81
PIM/Game: 2.45

So Marchand – better goal scorer, far far less PIMs

excluding playoffs for simplicity

Brad Marchand

Draft year (05/06): 0.43 G/G, 0.97 P/G, 1.22 PIM/G
Draft+1 year (06/07): 0.58 G/G, 1.40 P/G, 1.89 PIM/G
Draft+2 years (07/08): 0.53 G/G, 1.24 P/G, 1.29 PIM/G

Brad Ross

Draft year (09/10): 0.38 G/G, 0.96 P/G, 2.86 PIM/G
Draft+1 year (10/11): 0.46 G/G, 1.03 P/G, 2.55 PIM/G
Draft+2 years (11/12): 0.59 G/G, 1.23 P/G, 2.64 PIM/G

Ross improving every year. Shit ton of PIMs still.

Honestly at two years post draft

I would ideally like to see a tad more offense out of them if we expect them to have much in the NHL. On the other hand as they are likely bottom 6 prospects it is nice to see them have some scoring upside.

On Fan 590 today, Burke said goalies need more protection because, unlike other skaters, “he can’t hunt that guy down.” Maybe not the smartest remark for someone at least tangentially involved in Bertuzzi/Moore to make . . .

Pretty sure he meant hunt down a replacement for that goalie.

No, he specifically mentions challenging them to a fight.

By “them” I mean the guy who laid the hit.

well it does make sense, a goalie can’t really go challenge a guy to a fight anywhere on the ice, and if, like you said, he specified “challenge” then it isn’t a Bertuzzi thing unless every single fight to challenge is a Bertuzzi thing

The reason that a goalie can’t go challenge a guy to fight anywhere on the ice is, of course, because he can’t cross the red line.

that and 99 percent of the time he is going to get mauled

Fuck it. I like Burke’s comments he’s right. We may have wanted to use a different word than hunt but other than that good for him. The number of times I thought to myself “insert leaf players name here” could’ve blown up Smith on that play. The number of times a player could’ve run him was probably in the dozens. I fucking hate Lucic for making it come to this.

Ron Hextall would hunt people down. Just saying.

Would Orr be any worse than Toskalol or Gustavsson?

It has come to this…serenity now!!!

I don’t see how Burke is involved in Bertuzzi/Moore unless he sent a memo to the players before the game asking for someone to kill Moore.

I used to love the Leafs... I still do... but I used to, too.

Pretty sure Burke was named in Moore’s lawsuit.

they named everyone with the thinnest shred of a connection, the more you blame the better chance something sticks

they could have named Joe Vancouver in the suit, still doesn’t make them involved.

Flashpoint

What is Flashpoint ?
- a Canadian police drama television series that debuted on July 11, 2008, on CTV based out of GTA ….

Why am I posting this here?
Because in last night’s episode the characters were inside the ACC, running the halls, in the VIP sections, etc etc lol

Here are a few screen shots. You can also watch the episode here

VERY important that this article has not only a date, but a time attached to it. Right now, Connolly is in a Nashville hotel room, with BOTH the coffee maker and iron plugged in! Presently, Dave Nonis is looking into safer equipment for Tim….. a traveling “rubber room”. Watch out for suffocation.

So can we give that 2nd rounder for Nabokov already?
Reimer is gone for months now probably (FUCK GIONTA, FUCK GIONTA, FUCK GIONTA) and we need to make the playoffs this year.

by PhilSpecter on Nov 16, 2011 10:08 PM EST reply actions

No sense in guessing at how long Reimer is out for; could be days, weeks, months….we simply don’t know.

But yeah, a 2nd for Nabokov to save the season? That’s a no brainer in my opinion.

Reimer is (reportedly?) not even working out off ice anymore. I’d say 3 weeks at least.

Being a Leafs fan makes me bipolar.

I realize we have to trust Burke to be patient in these kind of things to get the best deal, but man – he fucking took forever to trade Toskala to get the “right” deal that the whole godamn season was sabotaged.

Not like Giguere was lights out, but Toskala was Gustavsson awful. And he just kept getting put out there.

No more moral victories, no more excuses. Put up or shut up.

Situation is a little different. Who was behind Vesa? Raycroft? Was he here with Giggy for a while? I can’t even remember but I do know the situation was reallllly bad otherwise Vesa would’ve been on the bench all the time. I think Burke has a little bit of time, Scribbles has actually played well enough to win every game except the Florida game. He was mediocre against Ottawa but it’s a 3 goals is manageable.
