The Walking Wounded: Preds 4 - Leafs 1

Looks like the Leafs are racking up those medical bills at the moment.  With an already shortened bench, the Leafs fell to the Nashville Predators tonight and lost Matthew Lombardi and Mike Komisarek to upper-body injuries.  Lombardi was seen leaving the arena with his arm in a sling, and Komisarek had his injured arm covered by his jacket.  The "good" news is that Colton Orr will likely see action on Saturday night, and at this rate he'll be playing LW with Kessel by the 3rd period.

Can't complain too much with the effort tonight.  A 38 save performance by Pekke Rinne and a significantly less stellar performance by Ben Scrivens sealed Toronto's fate.  The Lupul-Bozak-Kessel line was a combined -11, despite the Leafs controlling most of the play and being aggressive throughout the game.  Sometimes you just run into a hot goaltender.  But with injuries mounting and 6 of their next 8 games on the road, there's a legitimate cause for concern in Leafland.

The Leafs

would rather play Orr on the LW than Kadri. That’s sad.

At least Orr has a goal in the 2 games he played this season!

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel-Phaneuf may have been -14 on the night, but they really should have been -17, if not for Craig Smith’s enthusiasm.

That would become a 3 goal game and I’m assuming Scrivens goes back in net.

That’s a good point. My bad.

Furthermore, I reviewed the videotape and was able to read Lupul’s lips as he was chirping Craig Smith, which also confirms this.

“What, you think you’re gonna make me and my linemates each go minus-4 on the night? Joke’s on you, rookie”

All we have to do is be .500 by the all star break.

Then our usual late season push should get us into the playoffs.

No biggie, as that’s the weak portion of Komisarek’s body anyways. The guy has wickedly talented toes.

"pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence, That's how our teams play." Brian Burke, before realizing that it's 2011, and goons sip coffee in the press box.

Pekka is more than a hot goaltender.

He does that just about every night. The bad nights are the rarities.

The one thing I recall about him is he has the best rebound control of any goalie in the NHL. He absorbs pucks like a sponge; it’s crazy.

2nd Line Was Awful

Did anyone see Kulimen or Frattin last night? I know Connolly played cause I saw him do an interview between periods..

If it wasn’t for all the injuries I would say sit Kulimen out for a game. The man has completely lost him game/confidence.

by Gebx on Nov 18, 2011 9:16 AM EST reply actions

i only saw one Kuli-man I don’t know what multiple Kuli-men you’re referring to. Unless it’s Kulemin

I used to love the Leafs... I still do... but I used to, too.

On the bright side, at least we didn’t lose two more forwards. Komi’s been playing really well but I’m glad we have a replacement for him. We are literally out of forwards.

yeah we only lost 1 forward . progress!
