Leafs Vs. Panthers: Return of the Steeg
Puck Drops: 7:00 EST
TV: Rogers Sportsnet
Radio: AM640
OK, so it's not the first time that Kris Versteeg comes back to play the Leafs - he picked up two goals in his return while playing for Philly, as the Leafs won 3-2 - but last season just wasn't that long ago, and I'm sure we'd all love to see his Florida Panthers soundly beaten.
Of course, beating the Panthers is much more important than Kris Versteeg, since the Panthers are actually on pace to make the playoffs, and will likely be one of the teams the Leafs have to stay ahead of. For me, beating other bubble teams is becoming something of a theme here, even though it's early in the season.
It is November, after all.
Jonas Gustavsson will start once again for Toronto, as team doctors attempt to stitch James Reimer's head back on. Scrivens will back up the Monster.
Cody Franson, Colton Orr, and Jay Rosehill are scratches tonight for the Leafs, as Luke Schenn is re-inserted into the lineup. Hopefully, he's given his head a bit of a shake, and is ready to start erasing fools that try to cross our blue line.
As previously reported, with the injury to Tim Connolly, Matt Frattin will get another shot on the Leafs' third line with Matthew Lombardi and Joey Crabb. Not sure that I'm crazy about that third line, but Crabb has played well enough in the last couple games to merit staying, and I'm in no rush to have Kadri back.
Here are tonight's lineups, as per James Mirtle's recap at the Globe:
Leafs projected lineup
MacArthur - Grabovski - Kulemin
Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Frattin - Lombardi - Crabb
Steckel - Dupuis - Brown
Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - Komisarek
Gardiner - Schenn
Gustavsson
Panthers projected lineup
Fleischmann - Weiss - Versteeg
Upshall - Santorelli - Kopecky
Sturm - Goc - Skille
Bergenheim - Matthias - Bradley
Campbell - Garrison
Ellerby - Jovanovski
Kulikov - Weaver
Theodore

People are always going to shorten your name, and if they can’t they will make one up which is probably much worse
No Good Komi Scum
Yeah exactly, which is why the best is to shorten it on your own terms. I worked with a Kris one summer who’s full name was Krzysztoff, he wasn’t going to be a dick and make people in Canada try to pronounce it, and didn’t want them to make up a dumb nickname, so just went by Kris.

panicking because our PK is terrible, and Reims is still hurt and no one knows whats wrong with him, plus like was said below, we panic whenever we lose
we ought to have known it was going to be this bad. How Ironic that we forgot. It’s probably because Leafs fans don’t intimidate the refs enough at home, they just sit with one hand in their pocket.

Doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him (Gudbranson). Ellerby is on a one-way deal and can’t be sent down without waivers, Gudbranson can’t be sent down without being sent straight to junior. He and Ellerby were assumed to split playing time going into this season. It seems like right now Dineen is going with whichever young defender is playing the least sloppily, but if that’s the case I’d argue that Gudbranson should be back in the lineup.

No tweeting will be allowed from two hours before game time until after the post-game interviews are done.
That’s whack. They should be able to tweet whenever they want.
Not followin' @JPNikota on Twitter? Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'.
Yeah, if it’s inappropriate for whatever reason, the media and fans will make sure its well known. That should be punishment enough for living in a free society.

I think their rationale has a lot to do with protecting journalists so that players don’t simply bypass them with news. Doubt that would happen, but there it is.
Flugenweb, space code, twit zone, ass mode, check ze tweets.
Ahhhh yes. That does make sense.

Well I meant more in terms of when they tweet, rather than what they tweet. I’m sure the NHL wouldn’t take kindly to anything overtly offensive tweeted at any point

exactly, and people are worked up after a game. As for the 2 hours thing, I’m assuming they want to minimise distractions before the game
Yeah those are good points too, in addition to Shield’s point about stealing news from journalists.
Probably be entertaining as hell though to allow players to tweet immediately after a game.

We’re bound to get completely boned by Mike Weaver tonight.

WHADDYA THINK?
GONNA BE ANY STECKELIN’ TODAY?
R.I.P. The playoff hopes of Montreal Canadiens fans for 2011-12.
We saw this last year
The team starts off playing fluidly and fast, but devolves into a jumbled mess. I hope it’s not more of the same in November
I’m feeling less than confident about tonight. For a few reasons.
1. We’re playing a goalie who is almost guaranteed to allow 3 goals before the start of the 3rd period.
2. There are 7 players from Ontario on the Panthers, some of whom will probably have their Dad’s watching. Wait, nobody tries extra hard in front of their Dad right?
3. Panther players will feel a surge of panic and then relief and then inspiration when they realize that those people storming their dressing room are not vandals but actually these people called sports journalists who want to know what they think.
4. Toronto suck big balls against Florida teams (I have no stats to support this, just going by vague memory).
5. We got spanked so bad last game that it feels like we’ll never win again.
Go Leafs (whimper)
You both make valid points, but I’m inclined to agree with yours more.
TWEET AT ME BRO
Leaf fan for life! (No, really. They gave me a no-trade clause when I was born.)

The Florida game I was at last year gave the Leafs two points.
I’m more concerned about how much fun we have at Mike Weaver’s expense. How much do the hockey gods hate us? I guess we’ll find out soon.

The Florida game I was at last year had the Leafs start Giguere in the middle of Reimer’s hot streak and lose 4-0, fuck the Panthers
Sometimes it seems this cycle never ends, we slide from top to bottom then we turn and climb again.

methinks they should change that E to an O and that’d be a more fitting name.
Raycroft! I like the move. Falls inline with the push for youth and is a solution for the future. Trading Rask was unfortunate, but with Pogge and Raycroft only being 26, I think the TO goaltending future is a bright one. - Some guy from 2006
