Marlies vs. Bulldogs - Aaron Voros' Debut / Joe Colborne To Come

Just figured I'd post an AHL equiv. to the GDT so people can continue the trade convo.  I'm not posting a serious preview of the game, but I will mention that this is the first game of Aaron Voros' career in the Leafs organization.  Scrivens is in net, and Ryan Hamilton had a hat trick in the last game.

Oh and Nazem Kadri is in the mood to kick ass and take names recently so look forward to tonight's matchup of two playoff bound teams.  Bulldogs have lost 5 straight... treat it like a Leafs-Habs game and we'll be all good.

ok so

I’m blaming Voros…

does anyone else feel like he’s a step above Ryan Hollweg?

I shouldn’t say that because I actually advocated to sign him 2 years ago before the Rangers picked him up.

Yes, cause he cost a conditional 7th, and Hollweg cost a 5th.

they run Leafs games in HD… just not Marlies… I think it has more to do with AHL games … CBC has HD Cameras at theirs cuz they air them nationally… Marlies games are local broadcasts and they don’t bother with the equipment for the lower viewership.

yes

because it’s just a 24/7 ad for the Leafs… they have virtually no ad revenue from major sponsors… they get money from subscriptions etc.

I don’t know how MLSE funds it… if they were smart they’d spend more on it, and improve the product further.

I guess it would be hard when the channel is completely correlated with the Leafs.

The fact that you need to pay to get LeafsTV might explain things; there are a lot of Cable channels where it makes no sense how they stay in business, that $2/month/person must add up.

by Shield on Feb 18, 2011 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

a lot of people don’t have it at home… so odds are leaf fans will go out to bars to watch… so the bars get the added revenue of having them there drinking.

That sucks. Oilers games in “HD” use shitty cameras that are probably used from somewhere, you’d think MLSE would use that kind of things at Ricoh.

I don’t really watch Marlies games enough to care, but like they sell handheld HD cameras now that shoot in 720p, think they could put at least one is for the main broadcast camera.

by Shield on Feb 18, 2011 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

Oh I’m not saying that, just that technology has reached a point that I don’t see how it is too much of an expense to put in an HD camera, just kind of annoying to pay for Leafs TV and they are in SD for everything, including Marlies games, other than when the Leafs are playing.

A while ago when everyone was so infatuated with our “big four” D-prospects I was really concerned that they were all (relatively) defensive D-man. Now Gysbers has really been developing, Blacker (who I considered our only one) is really coming along, and Gardiner has been brought in. I’m happy

But with Gardiner now in the fold, do we need Blacker as much as we did before?

IMO, the best course of action would be to let them both at least get into the A and see how they do. Don’t want to pick the wrong prospect.

Kabby with the assist.

Dirty snipe by Seidenberg.

Man I can’t believe he’s gone. His cheeks don’t look as rosy in Black and Gold.

No they don't

And Krejci was credited with the assist.

Cyril: I'm not sure that's technically irony.
Archer: What? This is like O. Henry and Alanis Morissette had a baby and named it this exact situation!

Yeah I just double checked that. Kabby had it originally. Can I still call him Kabby? Even though he’s not on our team.

Trade insanity continues.

No joke, kids. STL-COL trade is legit. @jprutherford has it – Erik Johnson/Jay McClement for Chris Stewart/Kevin Shattenkirk. Done deal.

weird freaking trade

I don’t get that one.. I guess Shattenkirk wasn’t defensive enough and Johnson wasn’t offensive enough?
