Burke has extended Mike Brown for three years. We don't know salary yet but probably will in a few hours. This is an odd move: at even strength Mike Brown appears to be one of the worst players on the Leafs with a -7 scoring chance differential per 60 minutes, ahead of only Colton Orr among Leafs regulars. Brown is decent on the penalty kill compared to his teammates but our penalty kill is atrocious.

Brown's salary is likely under a million dollars but it's not clear why a team should bother locking up 4th liners long term. Guys like Mike Brown are available in the AHL and on the UFA market constantly. Three more years of Brown will likely be somewhere between "meh" and "we waived him two years ago".

Update: the deal is three years at $738K and is slightly front loaded.
