Marlies vs. Rampage GDT

Former Leaf - RYAN HOLLWEG!

Toronto playing another home game on Family Day.  1:00 PM start so we're 5 minutes into the 1st at this point.  Watch to see Joe Colborne continue to light it up, and push the play of Nazem Kadri.

Andrew Engelage is back in goal, and the Marlies are looking for their 2nd straight win.

Oh and RYAN HOLLWEG PLAYS FOR SAN ANTONIO.  Just saying. Fun times.

The lines for most of the game on Sat were:

Brunnstrom – Colborne – Cowan
Kadri – Mitchell – Voros
Scott – Foster – Hamilton
Mueller – Zigomanis – Hodgman

They pretty much just ran 4 lines for most of the game.

The Foster line was eating up the Griffins’ defence. Zigomanis and Kadri were also carving them up in OT.

by Steve Burtch on Feb 21, 2011 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

Duration, duration, duration.

Komisarek’s salary is front-loaded, and he gets paid 3.5M for the last two years of his contract. Bad, but moveable to a team on an internal budget with a weak defensive corps.

Campbell gets even salary for the duration of his contract, which makes him less moveable for the two years he’s signed longer than Komisarek, not including the 8-team NTC. He’ll also be interfering with the period in which we intend to be contending, which means that we’ll be relying on players heavily outperforming their contracts just so that we can even it out (see: Chicago’s dependence on ELCs).

This is where a witty signature might go.

Gysbers and Richmond have passed him on the depth chart.

I don’t exactly know why Josh Engel keeps getting in over Mikus, unless he’s playing truly terrble.

But if Finger’s almost back then Mikus could probably be going down to Reading, too.

Gysbers and Richmond

are both like 3 years older than he is… so “passed” isn’t really fair.

the problem Mikus has

is he’s getting pushed down the chart by guys that have more experience and are more physically mature… because he’s younger than they are. He isn’t bad, and it’s stunting his development to not play as much.

I hope to god

that this is BS on Burke’s part:

"We haven’t quantified [MacArthur’s value] yet," Burke said. "I know he’s said he’d like to stay. I think he’d be crazy not to. Play in a city like this with linemates like that. But we haven’t monetized it yet or put amounts on [his new deal] – that’s going to happen this week.

“If not, if he doesn’t agree to something that makes sense, then we’re going to listen [to offers]. It’s not a guarantee that he’s not going to be here, but we’re certainly going to listen. It’s not an easy player to quantify. It’s a player who’s averaged roughly 40 points his whole career and now he’s on pace for 80 or whatever it is. It’s not easy to quantify what a player like that’s worth.”

You haven’t “monetized” it yet? WTF MAN… you are joking if you haven’t got any idea what a player like that is worth… and the stuff about 40 point player his whole career? You mean playing under 14 minutes a night in his first 3 years in the NHL on irregular shifts and limited PP time? I just find this sort of bluster irritating.

I’d try to add in more picks, and downgrade either Mac or Kadri, but I think Stastny falls under the category of young, “elite” talent, and we need to be doing everything we can to bring it in to the organization.

Consider how many players similar to Stastny (in terms of skill, history of production, and age) are being talked about as “touchable.” I can’t even think of one. Maybe there’s been two or three over the past year, tops.

He’s on pace for 65 points on an injury-riddled, rather bad Colorado team, and has proven he’s capable of even better. I don’t think he’s overpaid by much, especially considering you’re covering at least 2 years of his prime. I’d be all over that contract, even if it meant overpaying for the trade.

Morrow

is getting old… but yeah Eriksson, Benn, and Glennie all help I guess.

But fuck… that’s a LOT for Goligoski…. I could see it for Letang? but Goligoski? weird.

and I mean

this doesn’t really hurt Pittsburgh’s D … they still have Letang and Martin as PMD, and they’ve got Orpik, Michalek, Engelland, and Lovejoy as tougher shut down guys.

Salary related. Dallas could of gotten a lot more from Toronto if they asked before we traded Kaberle.

the only thing i can see is shedding salary, but its only about 2.5 million and they gave up a darn good forward in Neal who is an RFA at the end of his current contract, no sense at all

At first

I figured this must be a salary dump to resign a certain C, but the DAL only lose 2.875m. WTF is up with this trade?

by 9 Dollar Beer on Feb 21, 2011 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

Richards is already getting paid 7.8 mil. I doubt he gets paid more than 7 mil in the open market. if anything, they are reducing payroll by resigning Richards

that if Kadri had played the full year in the AHL he’d likely be in the top 5 in scoring.

exactly there aren’t a huge amount of ppg scorers in the ahl even so why are alot of people here ready to trade him at the drop of the hat, we need to hold on to this kid to see what he turns into

by BCapp on Feb 21, 2011 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

not for Stastny but everyone here seems to throw Kadri into the mix when talking about acquiring a top line c but im just not ready to trade a 20 year old ppg player in the ahl for anyone at this point getting stastny isnt going to win us a cup and hes going to cost a hell of a lot more then kadri playing sheltered scoring line minutes next year

by pho king awesome on Feb 21, 2011 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

For any C who has scored PPG 3+ times in the last 5 years and is under 28, bye bye Kadri. Kadri’s ceiling is likely a 65-70 point player and a lot think he caps at ~55. Yeah he is ppg in the A and thats great. And I am not quick to trade him. But for a number 1 C in the heart of their prime? Yeah I would

I doubt a bunch of the Marlie vets are going to be resigned next year. I wonder if they will move Kadri to Colborne’s wing. Really excited to see these two play together.

Rochester wins in a Shootout.

Hamilton’s in a 3-way tie for first in the North with Manitoba and Lake Erie, Marlies are one point behind. And they’d all still be 7th place in the West Division.

Crazy.

by JaredFromLondon on Feb 21, 2011 6:37 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think anyone else took a faceoff in the last 10 minutes until after the empty-net goal to make it 6-4. He definitely took all the defensive zone ones. And I’m fairly certain he won them all. His play on the shorthanded empty-net goal was ridiculous.
