Marlies vs. Moose GDT

Baby Buds vs. Baby Canucks in a different version of an All Canadian matchup today at the Ricoh in the first of back to back matchups.  This is yet another chance for the Marlies to make a push for the Calder Cup playoffs as the Moose are currently 2 points ahead of them with 2 games in hand.

Look at this as an opportunity for the Marlies to continue what they did in delivering back to back victories over Manitoba in Winnipeg last week.  Manitoba is really falling apart recently, and has only managed to win 2 games in an 8 game stretch against divisional opponents.  Toronto is in the midst of a hot stretch, currently sitting at 6-3-0-1 in their last 10, and unbeaten in regulation in the last 3 games.

Nazem Kadri and Joe Colborne will hopefully continue some excellent play up front, while Mike Zigomanis continues to provide veteran leadership. Gustavsson should be getting the start, so hopefully he continues to get back to what works well for him and salvages this season in Blue and White.

Keep up the good work Kids!

don't get me wrong though

he’s played well… he just shouldn’t spend too long in the AHL, or that’s a sign of his development stalling.

I’m not seeing much to convince me he needs offensive polish at this level, so for that reason I don’t think his offense has much value in assessing his ability to play at a higher level.

Keep tabs on how his D looks, THAT is way more important. If he’s on the ice for a lot of goals against, then that’s worrying.

yeah, but Jiri Tlusty put up a PPG in a better league than schenn and netted a player who will top out as a good 3rd liner
Schenn is obviously better than Tlusty, but is he alone worth a near PPG player?

put it this way

only 34 players have posted better than 0.90 ppg numbers over the past 4 years, and Hemsky ranks 24th on that list… right beside Patrick Kane, Zach Parise, Dany Heatley, and Marc Savard.

Do you think those guys are better than Brayden Schenn? I sure as hell do.

Richards led the Lightning

in scoring with 62 points as a 20 year old.

Stastny’s rookie season was on a team that already had Joe Sakic, Andrew Brunette, Milan Hejduk, Wojtek Wolski, Tyler Arnason, and Marek Svatos up front, and John-Michael Liles, Jordan Leopold, Brett Clark, and Ken Klee on the Defensive end with Jose Theodore and Peter Budaj in net.

it skews his seasonal ppg averages (which we’re discussing) upwards.

That’s why his TOTAL ppg average over the past 4 years is lower than Hemsky’s because that one year was an anomaly in comparison to the others which were all below a point per game, and generally, the more games he played the further below a point per game he ended up.

Hemsky has had 1 full season in 8 years in the NHL. Stastny will have 3 full, healthy season through 5 years in the league. Big difference.
Stastny is also younger, just entering his prime as an NHLer, while Hemsky is already in his prime. Stastny plays C, Hemsky plays wing. Centers are more valuable.

Also, career PPG numbers? Stastny .94, Hemsky .81.

a clean hit is a clean hit, but then sometimes you either dont know (missed it) and just see your player on the ice with the other guy standing over him or it looks “dirty” or particularly viscous from your angle. I never saw this hit so I can’t judge it by those standards, but I don’t blame guys for dropping em there
but lots of time it is very evident from everywhere that the hit was clean, legal and the guy who got clocked is the only one at fault. Those are the ones that piss me off when there is a fight after

then the street car shouldn’t bother you.

RIGHT beside BMO field… and nobody seems pissed about the location of BMO field… so that’s a B.S. excuse.

by nhlcheapshot on Feb 26, 2011 5:29 PM EST up reply actions

well it isn’t the BEST location by any means, but depending on where you live it isnt exactly the least convenient place to get to
for me (in newmarket) anywhere down town is a pain, so it’s all relative

by JaredFromLondon on Feb 26, 2011 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

right

and if you live in Toronto near transit, it’s seriously NOT annoying to get to any more than anywhere else down there…. it’s not NEAR a lot of other stuff. but that’s incidental.

you can say “I hate Hemsky for irrational reasons”

Re: Chicago Wolves

IIRC (I had a conversation with someone who was from the Chicago area). The reason why the Wolves have been pretty popular is that their ownership is very aggressive with marketing, and capitalized on the BlackHawks being terrible and not showing their games on TV. So the awareness and accessibility of the Wolves were much higher.

If the MLSE ran some sort of “see the Leafs before they are Leafs” or whatever add campaign that didn’t just show up on a specialty channel it might help
