Toronto Marlies Clear Day List
The Toronto Marlies have announced their 2011 Clear Day List. This is essentially their playoff roster. The following players will be part of the squad that will compete for the Calder Cup if they make the playoffs:
Jussi Rynnas, Ben Scrivens, Keith Aulie, Mike Brennan, Fabian Brunnstrom, Joe Colborne, Jeff Cowan, Josh Engel, Alex Foster, Simon Gysbers, Ryan Hamilton, Christian Hanson, Justin Hodgman, Korbinian Holzer, Nazem Kadri, Matt Lashoff, Juraj Mikus, Marcel Mueller, Danny Richmond, Greg Scott, Aaron Voros, and Mike Zigomanis.
There a few familia names missing from that list including Joey Crabb, Darryl Boyce, and James Reimer. Crabb and Boyce are no longer exempt from waivers so I would imagine that that is one of the main considerations in keeping them from the playoffs. Leafs' GM Burke had previously said that he wanted Aulie and Reimer back with the Marlies so I'm surprised that Reimer isn't on the list. My initial thought is that he's not on the list because the Leafs have already made a decision on him as a pending RFA (staying, of course) and want a better look at Scrivens and Rynnas. He should be waiver eligible by my reading of the rules but I'm following up on that.

I’m not sure if I’m understanding this correctly, but essentially this means Caputi, Finger, Irwin and others can not re-join the Marlies when (if) they return from injury.
Hmmm
Yeah, looks that way.

On second thought
Maybe the fact that they are out injured lets them hold off on a decision.

It seems to me like they’d be ineligible unless someone else is injured. Rynnas is currently out, was named, and Engelage is taking his place until he returns. It seems odd that they would lock up Jeff Cowan instead of waiting to see what happens with Caputi. It also seems odd they have 8 defensemen on that list .

What I gleaned from Twitter is that if one of the injured guys is ready to come back they can replace someone else for injuries/callups/suspensions.
Junior and college players who sign ATO can be added to the list.

How does this impact the possibility of bringing up some of the juniors for some experience after their season finishes?
No. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise.
Oh god…When’s Finger due back from IR?
This is where a witty signature might go.

I doubt Aulie goes back down. The leafs kinda need defensemen at this time, and the wookie is too good!

Right, so what' he doing on this Marlies roster?
Is it a just-in-case? And if so, is there not a cost to this?
If the Leafs don’t make the playoffs then he can go down. If they do make them he stays up.
