Maple Leaf Fans ! NEVER EVER Drink Chai Tea after 9:30 PM !

You will not be able to sleep at night ! Its 3:30 in the Morning and I am tossing and turning and cant sleep. I was with my wife and Father In Law late last night and they made me 3 cups of Indian Chai Tea and now I am wired.

Ok the playoffs are in Full Swing, I know allot of Maple Leaf fans are rooting for some teams to help their Draft Pick selections (Versteeg to the FLYERS means that some people are rooting for Buffalo) while some people just cannot stand Buffalo (one person says Buck Fuffalo ! I love it ! )

I have been watching NHL Network hoping that I can fall asleep but no luck. I have been pondering some hockey thoughts however. One of which I think is keeping me up even more is the Mike Richards hit on Tim Connolly

On the check by Mike Richards into Tim Connolly (made of tissue paper I swear.) .. does anyone think he will get suspended by the league going into a crucial game 7 or not ?

Richards was assessed a 2 minute penalty during the game. No Game Misconduct or anything, However,.. We all know how the league is cracking down on hits on the head and Richards was also given a 5 min Major in Game 4 (Bullcrap call) for lifting his arm and hitting Kaleta. Now it was a last minute lifting of the arm to protect himself. You be the judge of the call with the link below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FS3xMoEFJU

Of course with the injury to Tim Connolly who has a history of concussions, and the previous 5 Minute Major Penalty on Richards, it has made some Buffalo Sabres Players to be upset. Below is an insert from the BuffaloNews.com website article. ...

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2011/04/sabres-want-richards-suspended-roy-returning-for-game-7.html

"If Mike Richards thinks we’re getting away with murder, I don’t know what he just got away with," Sabres goalie Ryan Miller said. "Mass murder? Are we stepping it up a notch? Unbelievable. We lose a player for the rest of the game. That’s the kind of hit the league has been talking about that’s dangerous. They better seriously consider looking at that one. It’s unbelievable."

Said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff: "Tim’s not doing very good. That’s something the league definitely has to take a look at. It’s a lack of respect for another player on the ice. It’s from behind. It’s headfirst. It’s a tough play. We lost a good player.

"I think if the league looks at it the way I saw it on video, they may lose a good player, too. That’ll be even, too."

Here is the Video Link on Youtube. You can see Richards grab Connolly and ride him into the boards and at the last second let go and lift his arms up in the air. Now maybe a holding call, an Interference call possibly could have been called, or the call that was made during the game which was Boarding for 2 minutes. I feel that the right call was made. I feel bad that a player was injured but there was no intent by Richards to hit the head of Connolly or a raising of the elbow so I feel that was the right call. I also believe in Karma. Or what comes around goes around. Not that I am happy that Connolly was injured but I feel that If Mike Richards is not suspended its not only the right call but it almost makes up for the B.S. call for the 5 minute major on Kaleta. Its ironic because on the 5 minute major call, Kaleta was right back out there on the ice unscathed, yet, Connolly never returned and is questionable for game 7 with the 2 minute Boarding call on Richards.

However, knowing the leagues crack down on Hits to the Head to prevent Concussions, .. Richards Reputation (David Booth) and previous 5 minute major call in game 4 to Kaleta, Do you think that the NHL will suspend Team Captain Mike Richards going into an all important Game 7 with all the Marbles on the line ?  Do you agree with the Call made during the game ?

Hm.

Richards’ elbow on Kaleta was really dirty, not to mention cowardly – he just didn’t want to take a hit. He deserved that 5-minute call in my opinion.

The Connolly hit probably does warrant a suspension, but I rather doubt the league will actually do something. I’ll invoke the use of the DGB suspension flow chart.

Oh, you better believe that's a paddling.

To your point about the discrepancies in the on-ice calls, it doesn’t really matter. The league can review any play it wants, and hand out supplemental discipline if they deem it necessary, even if no call is made.

Oh, you better believe that's a paddling.

I understand that. I also know that Majority of the time the league does not make any calls and undermine the Referree’s call on the ice. 90% of the time the call on the ice stands and no additional punishment is delt.

I disagree with you about the Kaleta Call, I think he was trying to brace himself and shield the puck at the same time so he raised his arm but no intention of Elbowing Kaleta in the face.

But thats why we have Opinions.

Now the fact that I am a FLYERS fan has nothing to do with it. – Case in point. I thought that the David Booth hit was Dirty and To this Day I still think its Dirty and that he should have been penalized for it back then. I was actually surprised he wasn’t. I recall calling my friend in Ontario who is an O.P.P. and telling him about the hit and he looked it up on Youtube and he said that he did not think Richards was going to get suspended. I recall telling him I doubt that the league will not suspend him but we will see. When they decided to not punish him I was shocked and I texted him and he said he wasnt shocked.

so people have their opinions. Its all goooooooooooddddd.

I am a bit Nervous about wether they will suspend him going into a Crucial Game 7 on the line.

You know Rob, I have a nice hot chili chai I could share with you. :)

I’m neutral on this series. Don’t like Philly, don’t like Miller, so yeah, I root for Philly to spite my dad. That’s about it, and I still wish they get knocked out next round. :)

And, I also agree with the 5 minutes maj. on Kaleta. Seemt fair to me at the moment, and feels fair to me right now.

ohhhh No … I felt that the 5 min major on Kaleta was wayyyyyy overkill. I didnt think it was warrented. out of the 3 I referenced. The only penalty that I felt should have been a penalty was not a penalty (David Booth)

Oh, I know what you meant, no worries! I was actually agreeing with JP here.

I know it’s Kaleta, he’s a douche and all. But still… :)

Ergh. Fuck Kaleta.

That hit did look pretty bad

But he didn’t completely crush him into the boards so it’s probably not suspension worthy, but he was lucky not to get a major penalty though

To me the hit looks bad, because its not even really a hit, he pushed his head into the boards… But i don’t know, I feel like its one of those plays thats only being looked at because there was an injury…

I agree BCapp… I think that even though its not really a hit, but because it was contact from Richards on him by the boards and it injured him in the head and he has a history of Injuries and Richards has a history of hits and penalties.

I also dont think it Warrents a suspension because it doesnt fit the definition of the new rule.

So I think it can be a suspension because of the first paragraph, but I hope not.

Whether you call it a “hit” or a “he threw is skull into the boards” doesn’t really matter. It looks like a dangerous play that could result in serious injury.

Oh, you better believe that's a paddling.

Correct. However … was their Intent to Injure .. thats the question. I dont think Richards had any Intent to Injure. I am all for safety and I am all for reducing Concussions. I dont want to see any more Decent NHL Players Careers shortened due to Concussions (Keith Primeau).

However, … It is a contact sport and it is the Playoffs. I dont want us to have an NHL of two hand touch Hockey either.

I like drinking chai tea before going to bed, especially in the winter.

I dont think you have ever had INDIAN Chai Tea .. Not that store brand and not that kind you get at Tim Horton’s. ..

My Wife is From India.

and the Chai tea that I had in IRAQ is similar to the Indian Chai Tea … Very Sweet and Very Strong. Keeps you wired. .. Its tasty (lots of Sugar) and its high in Caffein. Kinda like an Cappuccino without the foam.

I actually know lots of people who can’t go to bed if they don’t have their after dinner chai. Indians run off it, most my family drinks 3-4 cups a day. I don’t know how their heart doesn’t explode.
