Game - New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Fighters - Wade Belak, Cam Janssen
The lead up to the fight
This fight came less then one month after Cam Janssen was suspended for his late that sent Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle off the ice on a stretcher with a concussion.
More fight talk and videos and even a quote from Cam Janssen after the jump.
The fight itself
This fight delivered, it was long and entertaining and the crowd was into it as one would have expected.
Cam Janssen's fighting style is to let the other player tire themselves out early then come on strong at the end. He used this style with Belak and Belak did tire but throughout the fight Belak continued to throw punches and change hands on Janssen.
No crippling punch was landed but after this one both knew they were in a fight.
The winner
Wade Belak landed more and was more effective in the fight and gets the win.
From Cam Janssen himself
In a June 2010 interview I did with Crash The Crease I asked Cam Janssen about this fight.
Crash The Crease – Was the fight against Wade Belak in Toronto the most hyped up and most anticipated fight of your hockey career?
Cam Janssen - It was definitely up there because of the situation previously with my hit on Kaberle. Knowing that we were playing the Leafs a month after the hit, and it was in the biggest media market – Toronto, there was a lot of speculation that their club and Belak especially would be looking for revenge. Belak was just doing his job, and I respect him for that. It ended up a long and entertaining fight for the fans!
What else was going on
The BELAK BELAK BELAK chant from the Toronto crowd was great, Wade Belak was loved by the fans while he was in Toronto.
Harry Neale after the fight "I don't know what started it because they didn't collide" Really Harry? I hope that was a joke.
The fight lasted 1 minute and 35 seconds
Cam Janssen
Cam Janssen signed a contract with the Devils this summer so he is back in the Eastern Conference
Wade Belak
Wade Belak quietly retired during the middle of this past season
The next fight post will come tomorrow afternoon.
