Game - Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Fighters - Bryan Marchment, Craig Rivet
These two stepped out of the penalty box and dropped the gloves to go toe to toe against each other.
Full fight talk after the jump.
The fight
These two had taken roughing penalties before and once their minors were over and they were out of the penalty box they went right after each other at center ice.
Now I saw both guys throwing rights and lefts, Bob Cole seemed to only see Rivet throwing and somehow he saw Marchment's knees buckle in the process.
Both guys were exhausted from all the punches thrown and from all the punches landed on them. Both guys left the fight bloodied up.
The fight ended with both them tired and mutually agreeing on enough was enough.
The winner
I call this one a draw.
I don't think you can make a clear case saying either one of them won.
Bryan Marchment
Was there a more feared player on the ice when he was in the game?
Not only could he stand someone up at the blue line with a devastating hit, he would also throw his knees around and throw almost any dirty hit possible.
Marchment is from the Toronto area and he spent just this one season playing in Toronto. After the lockout he played another season in Calgary but then retired.
His year with Toronto he scored once, added 3 assists and had over 100 minutes in penalties.
At the time he did the job the Leafs dearly needed, he was tough, threw his weight around, defended his teammates and played well in his own end.
Take a drink everyone
It seems like a very long time ago that Marchment played with the Leafs let alone played in the NHL right?
Well....
The Leafs haven't made the playoffs since his year with the team. Now I know you all know that and know it's been a long time since the playoffs but that makes it even wilder in my books.
This game
As you can see during this fight the Leafs are up on the Canadiens 3-0.
The final score ended up 5-4 Toronto. To no surprise the Leafs had Mikael Tellqvist in net that night so it was probably to be expected that they almost blew a 3 goal lead.
My next post comes tomorrow afternoon.
